What would the approx value of a 1lb, (16 oz), Lyman ingot of about a 38 % tin /62 lead mix be worth? Ray

I would not be surprised to see a seller ask 1 to 5 dollars for that ingot. I (personally) would pay more than $1, but only if it was one of fifty such ingots, and shipping was very reasonable.

On the other hand, if that was a Lyman ingot with the backward 'N'...well, then you'd have something.

Frankly, I won't buy "solder" that someone has smelted and poured into ingots as anything other than scrap lead of unknown origin.

With the price of tin at $16/lb and lead going for $1/lb in todays metals market the 2 metals would be worth $7,but in the swapin & selling section there is 63/37 solder going for $2/lb so until all that is gone you will be lucky to get $1.50 for it.

Delta: I'd change vendors for your tin and lead. I'm paying $5/lb for Sn and $0.60/lb for scrap sheet lead

John Boy, I am not buying at those prices ,that is what Rotometals is selling it for ,I am sure you are not buying over the counter from a vendor that has tons in stock and can provide service for years to come. You did read to the end where I told him what I thought he could get for it?

ok.so now i'm wondering just what the backwards N ingots are worth as I have a couple dozen of them.

There was a eBay auction a while back where some ingots with the reversed N went for ridiculous money. The thread hung around for awhile with various and sundry comments made by the usual Cast Boolits characters. Around here, we buy the ingots for pouring, not for looking at and a backwards N has no particular value whatsoever.

Dammit! However long I study my "vintage" Lyman ingot mould, it's the "L" that's backward!!! The "N" is just fine. Of course, the whole word is bass-ackward, too.
