View Full Version : CLOSED: MP-Molds version of 155 grain 45 cliber SWC boolit - previously made by LEE

As requested in this thread:
OLD THREAD HERE (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?365515-Lee-155-grain-45-SWC)

We will be proceeding with a light weight SWC boolit in 45 caliber.

This boolit was previously made as a custom Lee mold. However, the method of running that group buy was clumsy, collecting money in advance, etc. We will do this one as a MP-Mold group buy. No money is needed up front, just need folks to sign up for a mold, and we'll make it happen. Payment is due only when the molds are actually ready to ship. So, here goes.

Here's the design:
225214 225215

You'll see that it looks a lot like a H&G #68, except lighter

225216
225217
225218

This MP-Mold will be offered in three mold configurations, 2 cavity brass, 4 cavity brass, and 6 cavity aluminum. These are solid nose ONLY. NO hp options. None needed. The boolit is pretty amazing as-is.
Please sign up for your cavity preference. When we get enough signups, this Discussion will shift over to ACTIVE, and we will start collecting final orders.
As always, you can also add a set of handles to your order for an additional savings. Normally, Miha charges 23 EUROS for handles. If you add handles to your order (ever mold needs a set of handles!), you will get them shipped with your mold at only 20 EUROS. Also, DHL shipping will assure that you will get your molds in 3 days (door to door), and that's well worth the $6.83 US.

We need the following information:
This is the ORDER list, I need the following:
* Screen Name
* How Many molds ?
* How many Cavities?
* Lubed (grooved) or Powder Coat style (no grooves), if you don't specify no grooves, it will be presumed that you want lube groove. This is the only option for this mold.
* This is plain base ONLY
* It is SWC ONLY, no HP options
* Disguised email address
* Zip Code
* Handles or no handles?
* DHL shipping (an additional $6.83 US) or regular shipping.

Reminder:

This is a custom mold, for a lightweight 45 ACP type bullet not generally available anywhere else. This is a first run mold for MP-Molds.

Hoping than when folks realize the onderful opportunity that this mold represents, they will sign up.

Just a word of caution… Has ANYONE had success with this design?
I own a Lee 2-cav version of this and nothing so far has yielded acceptable results. I have two guns that shoot sub 1" groups at 25y with H&G 68. They will not hold 6" with the 155 grain SWC and also get some feeding issues.

See my profile pic. I keep it as reminder to myself that one of the coolest designs has had the worst results.

OS OK

Thanks Whistler...was just about to sign up. I haven't used anything lighter than the 200g. SWC...I hope that the 'powers to be' will allow discussion about this...I'll just stand by for further developments, load recommendations & results of tested recipes.

Few thoughts.............

The H&G 68 is the classic standard for 45 ACP boolit design. However, this is just a slight bit lighter than the 200 grains of the H&G68.

Some simple adjustments on the powder load should have this one shooting same point of aim as with the H&G 68. Perhaps a powder change also might assist. I have a bunch of 45 acp cast boolit molds, and find that using Titegroup powder works wonders for accuracy. Many of you are likely using Bullseye powder, which has a burn rate Ok for some boolits, but maybe not all.

Titegroup powder (Hodgdon) is a sweet all around powder, and I use a lot of it for my 9mm's, .40's, and 45's. I buy it in 8 pound jugs the way many of you buy Bullseye.

Try that, and see how things go with these lighter 45's.

I'm still taking sign ups for this mold!!!

DukeInFlorida
01-01-2019, 09:48 PM
Sheesh... Why back out?
The molds will eventually get made, but NOT if everyone keeps losing patience. It's a wonderful mold.
I've had dozens of molds that I have signed up for over the years, and totally forgot about them.
Unlike the other guy who is active here at CB, Miha does NOT require any up front payment, so there's no financial obligation at this point to stay in the buy.
I'll remove you but it sure doesn't help the other people who are more patient. Let me know if you change your mind.

One of the truisms here at CastBoolits is that a custom mold really only ever happens when enough people also want one.

Hoping that enough people want this one to keep it alive.

I know of 2 people that use a similar bullet in NRA Bullseye. Their accuracy is excellent. Would you give your load dats?

DukeInFlorida
03-13-2019, 11:30 AM
As an NRA Reloading Instructor, I am especially careful NOT to provide any data that could be mis-transferred or mis-used. I always suggest to my students to refer to their reloading data books, prepared by professionals whi scientifically produce the reloading data. And, in the rare instance that no specific data is provided for a given bullet, check with the POWDER manufacturer for that load data. In addition to the PUBLISHED data in the books, they also have the tools and experience to provide interpolated data that will keep you safe.

So, I refrain from providing any of my personal data, and would steer you to the powder manufacturers.

Please especially be aware that cast lead bullet data is very different than jacketed or plated load data.

I know you will be disappointed that I am not just throwing out numbers. However, I hope that you understand the importance of getting your load data from scientifically developed sources. While I am an expert in reloading, I am not working at developing (by testing) published load data.

This was a request from a CB member. It's a solid nose mold, but we need some action to get this in the production schedule.
Anyone interested in this light version (155 grains) of H&G 68 ? NOTE: The original H&G 68 mold is heavier than this design.

I have the Lee mold, a NOE, and a NEI in the 155-160 range. All shoot quite well for me.

I used both starting book loads and light loads.

I have found that for some reason I need to run a slightly harder than normal alloy for these bullets or they will keyhole on me.

Miha asked me for a larger drawing, so that he can get started on a cherry. This is a nice solid nose, and so should go well once we move from the current sluggish pace. Once he gets the cherry made, these won't last long. So, asking for orders, please.

Please provide me with a properly WORKING disguised email address so that Miha can properly send you an invoice when these get made. Look at how others do their emails in other group buys for guidaance you usually only need to change the @ to

Please see the very first post for this design. There are no options for this one. ALL of the molds were made as shown in the drawing. So, PC is not available.

I'm presuming that Miha is going to send an invoice to all who signed up early for this mold. Miha, could you please confirm that?

He always makes extras, so you are able to place a direct order. The price always includes NORMAL Post Office shipping. Only if you want DHL shipping, for the extra fee, should you mention that in your order. No, there is no coupon. This is a group buy, and all group buys are already discounted at a 15% rate. Please re-read the original post for pricing, etc.

Thanks for the response Duke, appreciate all your efforts.
I tripled check the OP before I got in the GB & reread it again today, so not sure if I missed the NLG option nor the DHL-only shipping when I filled out/posted the order list below.
Anyways, FYI from Miha, he's directing us straight to the item in his website (no individual invoice) & he's shipping only thru DHL that's why he reduced the price to offset. I'm still waiting if he'll cut some with NLG before I place my order.

This is the ORDER list, I need the following:
* Screen Name
* How Many molds ?
* How many Cavities?
* Lubed (grooved) or Powder Coat style (no grooves), if you don't specify no grooves, it will be presumed that you want lube groove. This is the only option for this mold.
* This is plain base ONLY
* It is SWC ONLY, no HP options
* Disguised email address
* Zip Code
* Handles or no handles?
* DHL shipping (an additional $6.83 US) or regular shipping.

If you look closer you will see that mold is 76€ + shipping 11€. I know it is a bit more than declared, but you will have mold in 3-5days. (and you can track it all the time).

Because of DHL I don't send invoices anymore.

I have just spent the last 15-20 minutes trying to access MP-MOLDS. There has been a problem at every turn. I realize that I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but this is ridiculous. I'll wait awhile and see if anyone else has a problem. Apparently, the new process has done away with previous login information and we need to set up a new account. I have been trying but have been directed around in circles.

I hope that future MP molds aren't going to be this difficult to buy.

EDIT!!! I just received an email saying I should go to the website and activate my account. Stay tuned.

EDIT! EDIT! What the heck is a coupon code?

I hadn't noticed but it has gone the other way so long I figured that it would continue. I have been reading that Europe has problems with their economy and we know that the US is doing just fine despite the media.

I've just about had it with GB's since I can get just about anything I want from Accurate Molds. At my age, what do I need with more molds anyway. I'm sure that all the problems I had with Mihah's website will be worked out and everyone will be happy. I'm sure a good part of my frustration is due to not being convinced that I needed this mold.

No one else seems to be having these issues. Not sure how to assist.

Please remove my name from this GB. I have enough frustrations in my life that I don't need more. Also I have the H&G68 and a SAECO SWC 185 gr mold. Any more molds like these is an embarrassment.

I received my mold today 9-23, Total cost was $100 US dollars. Paypal hit me with 3.75% due to exchange rate varience. Shipping was 11 euros. Shipping took about 6 days. DHL got it to Columbus ,Ohio and then US mail.
