What is your favorite hunting load and what critters are you getting with them?

I hope to out away another pile of whitetail this year with cast 30 06...20 grains of 2400 under a Lee 170 fn...powder coated and gas checked. I hunt very close in with these thick Louisiana piney woods so it's a real hammer

What do you guys use for hunting?

Been varmint hunting a LOT this summer.Big game sees me with a trad bow and turkey feathers.

Let's see..... killed a few crows with a 22-250 Lee 225-55RF @2600fps.Had a blast with a beautiful '06,Stainless CDL shooting a Lyman 311041 @2500fps,lost track of the blood N guts that thing spread across terra firma this season. Then health issues saw me bring out a,you wouldn't believe it if I told ya,accurate #16 Savage again with the 225-55RF @1800-2000fps for a cpl kills. But health is improving so out comes a 7-08 Stainless SPS R700 going 2500fps with Varget behind a 285-130R Lee. Wanted to go varmint blasting today but got too tired. Can't wait though on the 7-08..... it's reeeeel accurate.Nice hard hammering cloverleafs @100.Nose is bumped 1/2 a thous which creates a razor sharp meplat. I've jacked a cpl things with it but that was loaded @1800.

Sounds like you out a hurt on the critters this year...

Water dropped WW's.Very basic lube..... to the point of being disgusting. BW/vaseline.... but the best part is it's only being lubed just above GC. Bullet is being swaged in ho-machined custom dies. Can push it to 2800fps but it's a pencil barrel and heat becomes an issue.Little hard on the cases too.

I'd say the most impressive thing about the 250( besides slackjaw wood in stock) is how durn explosive that little meplat is? Last year was using a cpl 243's and a stooopid accurate 6mm 700V and was tearing up crows N stuff very nicely, thankyou. So it doesn't make sense but the 22 cal works as well or better?Beats me.

Deer hunting, If I go this year, will be a 180 gr Sierra GameKing w/ 47 gr of Varget w/ my 30-06 A.I. The 30/30 I have both cast and jacketed loads that I've had for years.

I may take the 30/30. I've never shot at a deer with it, altho my youngest son has used it with great success.... I'm hoping to turn it into an A.I. this year....

I mostly shoot either a 308 Winchester or a 300 WSM with jacketed bullets for deer. Depending on the possible range of the shot. After I roll a couple I'll switch over to my 45-70 or one of my handguns using cast in either one.

My 308 load is a 150 grain Sierra Pro Hunter, LC Match case, CCI primer and 4064.
The 300 WSM load is a 168 Berger, WW case, Federal 210M primer and 4831SC
The 45-70 load is 405 RCBS GC cast from wheel weights, WW case, CCI primer and 4895.
The revolver load is a Keith type SWC cast from wheel weights and a case full of 2400. It may be a 357, 41 mag, 44 mag or 45 Colt.

Crossbow for archery season. TC 54 Renegade with RB, during muzzle loading. Marlin 1894 with 18.0 grains of 2400 under a RCBS 300 SWC HP, done by Eric, during modern gun. Handgun choice would be a 45 LC BH using Mi-Hec's 300 SAA clone.

For the early whitetail and muley season I have to use my .54 cal. muzzleloader, after Nov.1 I will use my '74 Sharps 50/90 or Marlin '95 in 45/70, another old time fav. of mine for deer is my Win.'95 in .303 British. Cast boolits only for this flatlander.

I use an 1899 Savage .303 in the brush and a Ruger .308 American in more open terrain. I hunt in CA for now and have to use unleaded bullets. The 303 Sav. gets 150 grain Barnes 30-30-TSX and the Ruger 150 grain Nosler green tips.

Just hunting local this year, usually fill 2-3 tags on my place. If hunting where close shots rule, it'll be a Marlin 38-55 with 250 gr cast over probably 21-4198 for about 1400fps. Longer shot areas would be any number of slightly more modern equipment, 243, 250 Sav, 257 Roberts, 270, 7-08, 308. Will probably concentrate more on the 25s than the others.

Deer archery season opens Sept 1, but it is bucks only for 2 weeks, then any sex for the rest of the season. They have moved me back into area 6 so it is 6 per season, not to exceed 3 bucks or 4 does. I have 4 does and a buck to get out of my garden.

If I hunt this year, I will go where the woods are very thick, shots are close at hand, literally within 10-20yds from a climbing stand, and I will hunt with a 5 1/2" New Vaquero in 45 Schofield, It will happily push one of the 250gr LBT WFN boolits to 1200fps which is perfect for a yearling doe or button head.

Watch it be my luck a wallhanger steps in front of the muzzle, still no contest for the medium frame gun and the middle length 45 cartridge..

long range crop damage shooting (5 so far) I like my 240 wby, 2506, 06 or 300 H&H depending on the field im shooting. So far probably my favorite overall the 240. For regular deer season mostly 308, 250 sav, 356 get rotated. Some others sprinkled in on occasion. Im shoot a field tonight that a long shot is a 200 yards so the Kimber 308 is in the truck. I used to hunt exclusively with handguns in regular deer season and used only cast bullets. Did that for about 20 years. Got old and so did my eyes and ive gone back to rifles. Only cast is once in a while the 356 but even that most of the time gets hornadys. I guess to me its a been there done that thing. Ive killed a truck load of deer, bear, pigs and buffalo with handguns and cast bullets. Don't have to prove it can be done anymore. I know they work but for actual high velocity rifle hunting jacketed just work better.

Put one through the boiler room and I'm sure it will do the trick nicely.

We take the owner of the ranch I work for opening week of archery season then I will see and help other hunters get their elk. I don't get to hunt until maybe Oct 1. I have my favorite Antleope tag but we have a large group coming in on or about opening day,if I can sneak a day.
