I happened to run across one of the new-production 22" 1886 Extra Lights the other day and commented that I needed another 45-70 like a hole-in-the-head.

After three days of looking/reading/sporadic handling... I again came to the conclusion that I needed another 45-70 like a hole-in-the-head.

Then I read all about the infamous stick-to-SAAMI 2.55" cartridge-length limitations, Garand-like over complexity, short/non-existent throats, ...ogive interference.... etc, etc, etc.... and absolutely cemented the fact that I needed another 45-70 like a hole-in-the-head.

So these are shots 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 out of that rifle, using nothing more than my standard Marlin`95, (and my Sharps, ......and my Ruger#1) BP-Level standard cast load.

Yeah, I needed another 45-70.....

(unfortunately, it took a Merit Aperture to get these eyes to focus on anything like the stock buckhorn sight/notch/front beads anymore -- so later this week a Williams FP-71 arrives....)

It isn't about need. Nice shooting.

Sometimes it's not about YOU needing the rifle . . . it's about the RIFLE needing you! Great shooting and I bet you have no regrets!

Those Miroku folks know how to make rifles. It’s just a shame that the current owners of Winchester make them put tang safeties and rebounding hammers. I’ve got two Browning (Miroku) rifles that are wonderful shooters with my paper patch loads.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180807/676314b48cee2a5566c756400ef032e7.jpg
From a rest and measured center of hole to center of hole they will shoot 1.5” at 100 yards with buckhorn sights! (Ignore the shots to the left, that was before I was done adjusting the sights)
