A cheap alternative is go to walmart and find some flannel material on clearance and a pair of scissors in an hours time you'll have a bag full.

Might or might not be good info, but Sportsman's Guide used to sell them in packages of 1,000 at a good price. Also, if you can find them, Southern Bloomer patches are good ones, made from scraps left over from a prison underwear operation.

Another vote for flannel shirts, it's also a fitting end for a favorite shirt.

T-shirts and old dish towels here. Easy way to cut 'em up is to use a rotary fabric cutter...kinda like a pizza cutter but a lot sharper...and a quilter's cutting board. I think my cutter cost me $5 or $6 at a fabric shop and I got my 24"x36" cutting board for $1 from a yard sale. And, I use the same set-up to cut dacron filler for loading cast in bottleneck brass.

Sportman's Guide had bags of GI 30 cal patches for cheep. Might check if they still have any
left. They were under $5.00 a bag for 1000, I bought 10 of the plastic wrapped pacts, should
have bought more. Used to get them for free when I was in the reserves, The good old days.

I use GI surplus patches. Great patches that grab and remove crud. I buy them by the ammo can full from surplus stores.

They are best cut with a cutting wheel.

Be careful of those Professional choice some of their patches are too thick and stiff.I found out after buying 1000 for my muzzleloader.I think the ones I got were their cotton twill.

I use the type of patch jag that you wrap the patch around.
I use the blue paper hand towels that come in a roll.
There strong, but not strong enough for the push through jag.
I still have cotton and GI patches, but haven't used any for a while.

If you do end up cutting the patches the Olfa rotary cutter with a self healing mat is the only way to go. They're wicked sharp so they deserve healthy respect but they're far faster than scissors. The self healing mats are cheap at Hobby Lobby with the 40 coupon.

I use an Olfa cutter on fiberglass and carbon fiber cloth with a self healing mat and it doesn't fray the cloth at all. Flannel is easy compared to those.

It's time for my annual safe cleaning and maintenance where everything gets cleaned and oiled. Including my 8 Dillion set ups.
I'm still moving slow from my 5th Stroke, and can't get much else done.

I buy diaper flannel at the fabric shop. Use the rotary cutter others have mentioned and you can have thousands of patches cut in very little time.
Scrap fabric is appealing for the price but it's all different thicknesses and various mixes of natural and synthetic fibers. Having something consistent is nice.
