Dillon vs ERGO roller handle

I have the dillon...discovered I do not like them, end up with my hand on the bend the whole time so I went back to the ball....now I am happy again!! 8)

I bought the Dillon ergo handle, used it for awhile, hated it. The roller would turn just as you got to the end of stroke. Twisted my wrist every time. I gladly went back to the eight ball handle.

I can't speak to the ERGO handle but I've had a Dillon roller handle on my 550 for over 20 years and I'm happy with it.

Your relationship to the bench and press has a lot to do with the angle of your wrist at the bottom of the lever's travel. Some people stand while operating the press, some folks sit, everyone's bench is different and we are all different. What works for one person may not work for another.

I will say that I prefer the roller handle to the ball handle but that's just me.

One thing I don't like about the Dillon roller handle is it lacks a means to prevent it from turning when the nut is tightened. I wish it had a couple of flats machined on the lower portion of the shaft so that a open end wrench could be used to hold it while the nut is tightened. I was able to hold the roller portion to prevent the entire handle from turning but the inclusion two flats sure would an improvement.

When I attached the handle to my Lyman lubersizer, I did grind two flats on the handle and that made it far easier to get it tight.

Gimmicks, gewgaws, bells and whistles. A gadget made to be sold as the next best thing. Tried it at a gun show years ago and didn't like the feel.
The eight ball has worked for me for decades.

The handle with the ball has a hole through the shaft. The roller handles (at least mine) does not have a hole.

Give me a ball anytime over a roller handle.
It really only works if you stand straight in front of the press. Not very convenient for my old knees.

I finally broke down and bought a strong mount and roller handle for mine after close to 10 years and probably a couple hundred thousand rounds with the ball and the press mounted to a 1/4 aluminum plate on the bench top. So far I am really happy and when everything works right I can get my production rate up to 13-1400 rph with the bullet feeder which is a lot faster with about the same effort as with the stock setup. I do which they would figure out a way to index the Handle rather than trying to hold it straight while tightening.

I can't compare them. I went with the Inline handles on my two 550s and really like them. Use what works best for you.

Mine has a hole thru the shaft, I stick a pin punch thru it to index and tighten the nut.

I bought the Dillon roller handle and tried to use it for a couple of loading sessions. Wend back to the original handle and still use it.

I have the handle in the floorboard of my truck and can't seem to give it away.

I have the Dillon roller, for the most part I like it. My only gripe that the Inline Fab unit does better is it has a dogleg at the top that has the effect of raising the handle at the end of the stroke. I sit to reload so its not that big of a deal but if I want to stand up i have to hunch over to fully depress the handle which really hurts my back.

Oh I guess 2 gripes, it does need some wrenching flats but I don't take it off so its not the end of the world.

The reason I'm considering a change is because I'm getting pain in my wrist that appears to be related to repetitive motion cycling reloading presses. There appears to be a near consensus favoring the Dillon ball handle over the Dillon roller handle. However, I wonder if the bend in the unit produced by Inline would reduce the flex in the wrist, and thereby reduce the strain? It may be worth $50 to find out.

There's no way to tell what will work for you until YOU try it.

I find the roller handle is better for me but that means nothing to someone else.

I bought 2 strong mounts and 2 ergo roller handles from Inline Fabrication about 2 years ago and they work fine for me. I liked them enough that I bought their roller handle for my Rockchucker too. It's a personal call I guess. I don't suppose you know anyone who has roller handles installed on their presses so that you could try one a bit first?

I found an aftermarket roller assembly on ebay that would screw on the SDB handle. wasn't for me

I wear a leather glove with fingers cut off for a bit of padding which helps

The roller handle looks like they would be a worse irritant to the wrist. I use a cotton glove on my right hand with the thumb and index finger cut off at the first knuckle. This lets me pick up brass and what ever else while allowing the ball to rotate in my hand with minimal friction.

I prefer the inline ergo handle to the Dillon ball handle. Last year I tore my bicep tendon off my ulna below my elbow, had the surgery and am learning that my surgeon was correct, it’s a long recovery. One year ago I would not of given the Inline fab handle a thought, I’m a very strong 42 year old. But now, it’s absolutely much easier for me to operate with the inline ergo handle. I don’t squeeze the handle like I’m trying to strangle it, I let it rotate in the palm of my hand. Doesn’t bother my carpel tunnel plagued wrist at all

I only have the Dillon roller handles but they’re all the aluminum version. Don’t know if that makes a difference since I’ve never tried the plastic version. They’re well secured in the presses and don’t slip. I like them and they wear less on my hand than the ball handles.
