On a standard soder bar which part is the tin? The 40% or the 60%? Ray

One of the experts here may correct me but I'm thinking it's 40% tin.

The first number is the tin content.

It was a mistake. Where I work, someone ordered 60/40 solder bars for a project and asked for 60% tin. Wrong !!!!

They were going to throw it away, but it only made it as far as my trunk !!![smilie=1:

The more tin the lower the melt temp.

If it's 60% tin melt should be at or near 350-375 deg. F.

If it's 60% Pb then the melt should be nearer 400-450 F.

Good Shooting.
