Lee TL240-430-SWC...discription used when loading

I cast the Lee TL240-430-SWC using wheel weights and mixed-recycled boolit lead. 99% of the time I am using Alliant Powders like Unique and Power Pistol. I am puzzled, though. The boolit design is not a Keith SWC, it is not a Speer swagged SWC, and it is not a RNFP...Or, is it??? So, when loading this boolit in my .44 Special, which load/boolit design should I lean towards?

SWC, just like Lee describes it.

It's a SWC, and they shoot very well. It's my go to bullet for 44 mag.

Yes, it is a SWC. But, so is the Keith design. And, as is the Speer LSCW. But, the loadings are quite different from each other.(see Alliant's page)

It is my understanding that the Speer boolit is of a softer lead. And, I would think that my wheel weight TLs would be harder. So, would the loading be closer to the Keith style? Do I need to consider the surface bearing area? Just trying to learn, here.

I load them as any other 240gr swc. I've used them in .44 spl, .44 mag, and 44-40 and they are great in all three. I cast them from coww and haven't pushed them past 1000 fs.

The bearing surface is the main culprit in the load differences. The more bearing surface, the more pressure and less powder. I am not certain where the Lee TL boolit would fall on the bearing surface range with all those tiny grease grooves. Just start with a starting load and work up until you are satisfied.

Typically the load data for swagged bullets is going to be for light loads. Using data for other cast 240 SWC's would be appropriate.

Load weight-wise for a 240gr. bullet. Seat to crimp over the top driving band or the first groove down. Start mild and progress from there. TL bullets shoot well.

I load those to crimp in the top groove. I use SWC data, and generally start in the lower half of the data.
I've driven those Lee TL430-240SWC boolits to 1200 fps, 50/50 CWW/Pb. I use 45/45/10 (Recluse lube), and also use BLL. Both lubes work well.

They are my go-to boolits for my 44 Mags. Easy to cast up a bunch in a hurry, no sizing required, quick to lube, accurate.

If I were to load some of those Lee TL boolits,
I'd use 240gr SWC data...try the Starting load and work up, as with most any other cast boolit load.
