Anyone ever used this to cast a chamber or get bore size?

I worked doing NDT inspections in a machine shop and we used both to cast and measure small details on the internals of some parts, much like chambers and bores.

I'm gonna give it a try, just wondering if anyone else has already done this?

I would guess as long as it don’t shrink or swell it might work, keep us posted as to the results. Just like powder coating must keep an open mind. To new things.

You need a known change rate over time. Needs to shrink to get it out, then a known expansion rate.

It does exactly what Wayne says it needs to do. I too used it in a prior life to inspect internal features I could not get to easily. Always consider trying it as a chamber casting/bore/groove measurement just never got around to it. I have some on the shelf, just don't know if it is still good after all these years. It really is a cool product.

Something like it. The stuff I have stays pliable though. Almost hard but not quite. Almost like rubber...

Facsimile is great because it does get hard, I used it more than once to make temporary fixtures to hold small parts for measurement.

I never used the reprorubber, I would be curious how well it does on chamber casts. I've used cerrosafe, not real enthused about it. Chills down and sets too fast when I used it.

I worked for many years as a manufacturing engineer.
In the measurement and receiving inspection areas we used dental impression material a lot. Usually it was to make an impression of an inaccessible fillet radius. Once the impression was made we sliced out a section and looked at it with an optical comparator or a microscope with a X-Y 2 axis work surface.

The stuff is a very solid setting RTV and it does not need to shrink. Being a very high quality rubber it will pull out of cavities and undercuts easily and return to it original dimensions.

We always used the dental material on medical applications to insure the parts were never in contact with noxious materials.
