Yes I have manuals and some favorite loads. What I’m looking for is some mild/ just above cast sneeze loads for a bolt action or single shot rifle with cast boolits. I have 3 pre -15 year olds who I’ll be taking out for MI deer season this year and the 450 is allowable in the entire state; I’d like to use some reduced loads that would still be capable of taking deer size game under 100 yards. I’ve not read or seen much on reduced power loads for the 450.

I would hazard to guess that a case full of Trail Boss will fit your needs.

I'd agree with trail boss for little or no recoil but I didn't have much luck with accuracy until I got my American up to speed using Lee 300 gr FN. I think the issue is the twist rate and heavy boolit combo. If you use trail boss maybe trying a light for caliber boolit might help? My 44 mag 77/44 has way lighter recoil with 21 gr of h110 and a 270 gr boolit than my 450 BM with the factory brake installed. I had a 12 year old first time shooter blazing away with the 44 mag load after a few seasons. That brake on the American is loud BTW. I did a ladder test with h110 a year ago and posted the results here if you look it up. 35.5gr of h110 was the tightest grouping at 1.1" at a hundred yards.

Thanks guys ; figured trailboss would be in the running; behind a 230-250 grain boolit of my house alloy; two of these youths I have th opportunity to take hunting are very slight of build and though donknow how to shoot and be safe I do not want them developing a flinch or other bad habits from shooting a full snot loading ; and for deer at swamp distances it’s not needed anyhow. The third shooter will be my daughter; she wants to try something other than her lever action 44 this year; though I don’t know why; who’d ever want to try more and different and bigger guns?

.45 LC "Ruger only" loads should work.

nagantguy,

I have a RARR 16" barrel 450 BM with 1:16 twist. My rifle hates low velocity loads, cast or jacketed, but over 2,000 fps it gets with the program. If you find a low velocity cast load that will group well at 100 yards please post it. I would like it as an option. Good luck to the youngsters deer hunting this fall and my hat is off to you for get them out into the woods.
