I've always used the same target at 50yds and 100yds,
B-7 8" target.
I've noticed that the 100yds target is a little more consistent.
I shoot open sights.
My thinking was the target was to big, at 50yds, to get a precise aim.
Went to a printed 6" target, and noticed the groups got smaller.
I'll try some 5" and 4" to see if I can still see them good enough to shoot at.
I'm guessing Mel Gibson was right what he said.........
"Aim small, Miss small"
Just thought I'd pass this along.

Yep you are correct use the smallest target you can see Clearly . That's key . When I shot Highpower the black bull was 6" at 100 , 12 at 200 so on and so forth so when I shot 22's at 50 yds I just made the target 3" your sight picture is always the same no matter what the range find a size that works for your sights and eyes and just scale it for the range your shooting . Now a days I need a bigger target and a wider front blade to shoot half ways decent groups.

i hate to admit it but smallest one you can see at 50 yards would be about the sizr of a trashcan lid. i do see a little better that far out with my coke bottle mr magoo glasses but they are not safty glasses and can't be worn at our range. although being as thick as they are not sure what cpuld break them.

Aim small...I sight my 06' in dead on to hit the raspberry at a 100 yards every year before I hit the woods.

Nothing like a Texas heart shot.

When I figure out how to get the pics posted here I'll show you two types of targets for iron sights I make up for both post and or bead sights. They work extremely well and I never get through a range session without someone trying them out and taking a few and learning how to make them for themselves. Most people find them much easier to use than round black circles at most any range.

I copy various targets on cheap construction paper and stick on some small orange target aiming spots for a nice visible target. Birchwood Casey sells sheets of them and another company sells a roll of the orange spots. The cheap construction paper allows most bullets to cut nice clean round holes.

Make a template, get a rattle can-O-paint & recycle some of that free corrugated box board out there . . .

Or you can make the first shot the POA, then check the group, wherever they land.

A round black bullseye always gave me trouble. Am I right at the bottom or up on the black? And what about windage? So I decided I would try making square bullseyes right in the center of the page on regular typing paper and run them off on my printer. On my revolvers and semi-autos the front sight subtends to I believe 3 inches at 25 yards. 100 yards is 1 foot square exactly and intermediate distances can be figured out from that. 50 yards is 6" I believe. Have to use a Meritt optical device to see the sights on my handguns any more. That thing sure is a big help. Big Boomer

I've tried different sizes to see which one I can see.
Solid black round is the easiest to see for me.
I found a target with a 6" outside and a 1 1/2" white inside.
Works good enough for me.
Might try to go smaller on the outside later.
