My brother just lucked into a 25-20
I'm thinking about a 63gr NOE and casting with stick on wheel weights then powder coating them and loading for about 1500fps. Is this a good idea or how should I modify my plan?

I'd be interested to hear about your results. I have a Winchester '92 SRC in .25-20 WCF that I still need to work up some loads for ...

sounds like a good plan.
I shoot this one with a little bit of Green Dot in a '94 Marlin. Might have to give that PC thing a try.

If it's a factory Marlin M1894, stick with the 257420 Lyman. With its factory twist, the longer/heavier the bullets and you get instability and keyholes./beagle

With pretty soft bullets (I use 1:1 ww to soft lead and the 257420 bullet), I do well with Win231/unique powders and no gas check. I go with a harder alloy when pushing harder with 4227, 4198, etc.

go harder, 257420 is a great one to cast, use reg wheel weight or #2 lyman

Powder Coating on a 25-20? Oh the humanity of it! You absolutely must use a classic lube with buffalo tallow, unrefined killer beeswax, and a healthy dash of unobtanium, mixed at a country crossroads under the dark of the moon.

Or something like that... but certainly nothing so modern as powder coating!

But seriously, have you found any 25-20 WCF brass yet or are you going to form some from 32-20?

Froggie,
A buddy says he can maybe part with a bit of brass. I'm thinking I may have to order a bunch of starline 32-20 and form it. I don't like having "improper" headstamps though. No real reason, just a "thing" of mine.

All,
The reason I'm thinking of going with the soft lead is the possibility of an inconsistent bore. I'm hoping the soft lead will "punch up" (obturate is the correct term I guess) and seal the bore. Seems like, from what I've read, powder coat is tougher than lube and might be a better solution than lube in this case. I use Ed's Red for all of my other cast needs.

Haha I know what ya mean GF... I have a couple ol' timer rounds that simply don't "look" correct with a RED GREEN or ORANGE boolit!

I have a 32-20 mold, but not a 25 and I do like the 25/20 allot!

For these I coat them Grey or silver. I have been thinking of picking up drab green or clear!!
