Many, many years ago, Shooting Times did a testing of a Colt H-Bar accuracy load.
I remember trying it and got great results.
Varget powder
52gr Hornady V Max bullets
CCI primers.
Anyone remember it????
I'd like to find out what the load was.
I lost it. Can't find it.
It was a great article.

Perhaps he’s thinking A-Max.

OP, you can’t just copy and paste load recipes and expect them to work the same in your gun. Get some Varget and 52gr Amaxs (if that’s what you’re wanting to use) and do some accuracy testing.

Maybe was A Max. The one with the bright red/orange tip.

"I remember trying it and got great results."

The load did work great.
If I did my part, one hole at 50yds.
It was a long time ago.
Don't think much of AR's, so I don't shoot them much. Got three of them.
I have the load written down someplace. Just can't find it.
It was before I started writing all my experiments in a log book.

Probably 25-26 grns. I used 25.0 of Varget for 69's and 80's.

Hornady makes a 53gr vmax I believe. Accuracy guy swear it shoots like a match bullet

Hornady ELD match.
Wish i could find the article.
It was about finding the right load for a Colt H-Bar.
Just so happened I had gotten one a few years earlier. Exact same one as in the article.
I think it came out in the 80's or 90's.
Back then Shooting Times was a great magazine.

Hornady currently offers a 53gr V Max bullet. I have never used it myself. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/356967/hornady-v-max-bullets-22-caliber-224-diameter-53-grain-boat-tail-box-of-100

One of my go to plinking loads that is pretty accurate for me is a 55gr FMJ or SP Hornady bullet, 26.5gr Varget, 2.210"COAL with a CCI400 primer. Varget just seems to work really well in a lot of cartridges. Usually in .223/5.56 an OTM bullet over 68 grains make the smallest groups.

I don't know how far back the archives go on Shooting times website? But then you don't know how long ago the article you want was published?

Anyway, these are the only two articles that popped up in a quick search.

This one doesn't have any load data, but then, that is what reloading manuals are for.

This one has some load data, but it appears to be pulled from others published data, and Not data generated by the author.
