Fedex dropped it off today! I started around 11am and finished up around 6pm. Exhausted after thinning that lock panel out [smilie=b:

Rifle went together smoothly. I spent a lot of extra time getting the trigger group inletting perfectly so there was no binding.

She'll get my typical bedding job in the barrel channel, tang and trigger group, Then its time to remove more wood and get the wood to metal fit, finished up.

French gray is very attractive, IMHO. I owned two that were set up that way.

Just a sneak peek! First heavy coat of linseed oil went on this morning to prep the wood for truoil that should go down tomorrow.

Just a note the lock panels are not picture frames. The bottom of the panel is a taper from the trigger guard out to the edge and the same with the top edge. The width is right though.

If I did it any different, I'd run into trouble with the ramrod channel. It has to be as it is due to the forearm. Could not remove any more wood.

Good job on the panel moldings.

first coat of Genuine Oil is on!

Also ended up bluing the barrel and then rubbing it back off with 0000 steel wool. I love it! The mustard thing didnt go to well and looked uneven. Overall, the appearance of that stock with the raw barrel finish looks fantastic.

I was thinking the same thing. Beautiful grain for a kit.

Folks I believe the wood is beech, and the stripe has been applied by staining. I have done this several times myself, Jon can correct me if I am wrong!

To jump back a couple of posts; I'm curious about the French Grey, does it still offer a measure of protection with the bluing faded back like that? It looks awesome in it's final form. I may be trying it myself on a build.

I have did French grey on several recievers over the years, I used Brownells rust and blue remover, diluted per their instructions, and it did a great job, as long as you killed it when done correctly! The last 2 I did I sprayed on a coat of Brownells matte clear aluma hyde 2, it worked great and held up great for the past 3 years of bird hunting.

Fired 10 shots through it today! Rear sight sucks, but I already have a replacement coming in that will clear up the sights a lot. Other than that, shes a sparker and accuracy is off to a good start. I coned the muzzle and it loads smooth as silk. So far, 3 grains 4fg goex spread across the pan gives me solid ignition.

I'd sure like to see how that gets done. Look's awesome.
