Actually that is a leather riveter, the brass cap on the side unscrews for tubular rivet storage. Used to be one on every old time farm sale in my area. I'm not that old, but I've used one to repair harness back when I had draft horses.

I’ve got one of those, with the outside and inside brass rivet components that it uses. It was a standard piece of office equipment in the old days, used to rivet report pages together at the upper left corner that were too thick for staples but not thick enough to put into a binder.

Why every unknown object with a lever and ram is a “bullet press” anymore is beyond me. Must be the Romance of the idea, or something.

I bought a shotshell roll crimp tool for $8 at a flea market. The tag said..old pliers.
