Reading up on powder coating - can it be used for all cast rifle and pistol bullets as substitute for lubing - any velocity restrictions - does it solve leading problems?

It solves leading problems. There are velocity restrictions.

I have not had ANY leading in the past 4 years in ANY gun barrel using PC....on properly fit cast boolits. That is the key.

I limit velocity to ~1900FPS for PC. Some go higher. I don't. I use commercial FMJ's for hi velocity rifle, which is mabe 5% of what I shoot.

Well worth doing and dumping grease lube..........no smoke, no mess, no grease, no leading. A no-brainer.

Haven't lubed in a few years myself. I'm with bangerjim, pc all handgun and sub 2000 fps rifle reduced loads, shoot my faithful sierra gameking for full power, long range work. Try it, it is easier than you think.

I've never lubed. I started casting after PC got popular, and I've never used anything else besides PC and Hi-Tek. Hearing all the horror stories of the mess and smell of lubed boolits, I don't think I'd ever want to try it

PC is all I do for cast bullets, its what I started with

No velocity limit other than the alloy used. Only the boolit counts in accuracy.

I got in pretty much at the start of PC and have gone through several developmental steps--it was fun to see what would work, what would improve what you're doing and keep abreast of the process.

Also I like to mix PC colors as I bore easily :razz:

Over the past few years I've developed a pretty efficient method of electrostatic spraying and can't imagine going back to traditional lubing. I really haven't found a down side as of yet. If you were up my way I'd give you one on one lessons. Best of luck!

My big complaint with rifle bullets is it messes with the size of the nose too much. Handgun stuff is fine....

Wondering if you are referring to the pc or the sizing process that is messing up the noses?

Everything has positives and negatives. I have to clean my guns more often after going PC. With lubed they actually lubed my guns like my Glock 19 which i shot 3500+ rounds without issue. Pc has dryer and more baked on carbon than lubed.
I switched because it was faster and cheaper than going with a star lubrisizer. 🤷🏻*♂️ also because it leaves slightly less leading in my compensator than bare lead/FMJs.

Everything has positives and negatives. If you can’t identify a negative or what you’re currently using in comparison to the competitor, you haven’t been using it long enough.

Choose whichever best suits your purpose. I shoot way too much to be lubing each bullet and checking for lube groove fill out, and I’m willing to put up with cleaning my gun more often, esp considering it’s a Glock which requires minimal attention.

Wondering if you are referring to the pc or the sizing process that is messing up the noses?

The PC making a bore riding nose too big.
I’m having a hard time finding a good way to size the nose.

I’m with popper, properly cured I have never leaded with any I have tried. As far as velocity, I have not found a limit. In most cases my shoulder or hard bolt lift are my limits.it is worth a try you may really like it.
