That would be an option for the experts. ;)

Are you referring to my GB of last year? The .45 310 Keith?

I'd like to have one of those 300 Keiths from last year. Or a long version of the 45 acp GB running now.

Seems to me that it would be hard to improve on Lee's production 452-300-GC, unless maybe it's for a lever gun that won't feed the big flat noses? That design seems pretty good to me; I'll be watching this thread to see what you guys come up with.

Looks like you can't really drive this one fast enough to need gas checks from what I have been told Yon.

my problem is that about any heavy 45 bullet i use eventually gets shot in the 45 leverguns and the 454 and for me to bite it would have to be a gas checked lfn. The 310 keith is a good bullet but was finiky to find loads that shot well. Maybe that bullet in a gas checked design would do better but its just hard to beat a lfngc to shoot well in about any gun.Looks like you can't really drive this one fast enough to need gas checks from what I have been told Yon.

If it stays as the plain base mould, I'm in. I would only use it in a .45 colt Blackhawk, and need a heavy boolit. I'm also too cheap for gas checks, hence the reason I haven't just bought the current mold Lee makes now. None the less, I like the plain base idea.

I am interested in a heavy 45 colt 6 cavity mold that would function in my Marlin 1894 Cowboy.
A 300 to 310 grain plain base bullet with a deep lube groove would be ideal.
Some of my loads are charged with black powder.

Elfego: How 'bout THIS for a big lube groove?:-D

Springfield,
Your pic reminds me of my Big Lube bullet mold. I think the lube groove is bigger than necessary but it works fine in my Vaqueros and Marlin.
But I enjoy shooting a 300 grain SWC. The mold was made by Doughty. The bullet works fine for smokeless and black powder loads but the mold is a challenge to keep in operational condition.

It actually used to be a Big Lube(tm) 45-70 mould that I had altered. That's a funny statement that I have heard before "the lube groove is bigger than necessary but the bullets work well". To me that's like saying" a 9mm probably woulda took him down just as well, but he sure went down hard, didn't he?" If it works, why denigrate it? Or saying "my LEE aluminum moulds won't last as long as steel but they sure crank out the bullets".

Springfield,
All i am trying to say is that my luber runs out of lube quickly.

They certainly do. The bullet shown will eat up a 4" stick in about 150 bullets.
