Greetings Cast Boolit Brothers.....Up for group buy is a proven performer for the 45-70. This was a CastBoolit Legends original run (Boomer Mikey)(45 2.1 Designer) and has proven very accurate and deadly on game.

Specifications are as follows:

Length = 1.02", weight = 405 gr. as cast, meplat = 0.324", crimp to meplat = 0.456" and are spec'd to have a 0.462"as cast diameter.

- Casting at .460 or .462
- Plain Base or Gas Check
- Steel sprue plate
- Hardened steel alignment pins
- Allen keys are included
- RCBS/Lyman top punch is included
- Use MP mold handles or LEE 6 cavity handles (NOT included but you can add for an +$20)

Just a little bit of praise for this one , I was fortunate to obtain a left over from the original buy, and it feeds perfect in my Marlin, and its a "bang - flop " everytime, without fail. Excellent accuracy at 100yds too.....

Miha didn’t recommend against it the boolits original designer did. I am going to ask Miha to do a prototype of the 6 cavity and we can put it through it’s paces and see if the potential for overheating causes any issues. This mold is in stock on his website and is his flagship boolit for the 45-70

My mistake, sorry. I assumed from your private message it was Miha advising against the 6 cavity and I value his opinion.

If we are willing to make recommendations based on 45 2.1's opinion then it should also be ok to use his name in the forum instead of referring to "the designer". If I had realised it was just 45 2.1 stirring the pot I would not have cancelled. I thought 45 2,1 was banned from CB.

There is no controversy here. Multi-cavity molds for bigger bullets simply require longer cooling period or a fan to speed up the process. I have made hundreds of bullets using a 5 cavity .460" 550 gr Accurate mold with no issues - and that is more heat to dissipate than this 6 cavity 405 gr will produce.

I have a bad taste in my mouth over this and I would rather not participate in the GB. Sorry for the trouble.

Short leade might not be a bad thing. With the Lee FCD I would work the length to engage the rifling and crimp there. My worry would be the opposite of yours...I would want to know if there was enough diameter past the crimp groove. I have scoured the archives and there was no mention of this boolit having chambering issues.

So last call has been going for a while; Are we still hung up on wether the mold has an easily dropped boolit? Just trying to get a bit of clarity, I was not involved in the earlier debate (and don't want to be!), but I am a bit confused as to the outcome.

Eventually. Unfortunately you picked the slowest group buy ever for your initiation. I've done several and this one has been the longest and slowest by far. There's not really a timetable on these things and they just happen when they happen. Just have to be patient.

He won’t mix cavities. I would order the plain base mold and order 5000 pb gas checks from Sage. That’s a lifetime supply for 45-70.

However now that I keep thinking about it my .459 moulds drop usually around .460 so will the .460 mould drop around .461? I don't know how MP moulds are and I don't want to make the wrong choice here.

Was re-reading the initial post about this mold. I realized that there was not an option listed for a 2 cavity mold. I had seen where some other members had wanted a 2 cavity mold. Change mine to the 4 cavity option (unless he has already ordered the mold blocks for the specific 2 cavity design). Here is my info from the list:

Hey, thanks....had not thought about this bullet in a 458 SOCOM. The 4-cavity will encourage me to start looking for a "New Toy". Plus, I know me....I would have wished I purchased the 4 cavity after the first pouring session.

I am sizing to .460" with my .458socom and I ordered the .460" mold. That is close to the limit to what the throat can handle on my Tromix barrel. I don't want the nose forward of the crimp groove to be too large, that is what hits the throat first.

Wooo, finally just placed the order. This one has been on my list for a while and I thought for a moment it wasnt going to happen

Mine arrived yesterday. Miha did a great job packaging this mold. The box had been submerged in water but the tape held it together. The only thing you could read was the mailing address. Cardboard was mushy and wet. Removed everything and dried it out. Good to go. Thank you, Miha for another great mold.

This is the first time I ordered one of Miha's molds with his handles, they are fantastic, much nicer than the Lyman handles I think. Probably won't get a chance to cast some until after it snows. :( Looking forward to using them in my Marlin 1895 LTD III.
