CLOSED - 180 Grain Large HP Miha 44 SWCHP

MiHec 44 SWCHP 2 or 4 Cavity Brass Cramer Plain Base or Gas Check mold.
This is a new boolit design. This will be suitable for any 44 caliber firearm. It will cast at about 0.432" or 0.434" (your choice) dependent on your alloy. The weight is as shown on the drawing dependent on your alloy of choice. Meplat to crimp = 0.320".

We will need fifteen to commit to this. We will run this until we get the number we need or more, then it is up to MiHec to decide when to make it........ it can be a long time.... be warned and no whining.

Pins included are: For the Hollow Point Mold are 1) Large HP pin, 2) Small HP pin, 3) Cup HP pin, 4) Blank pin for a flat nose or in the case you don't want HP pins sticking out the mold.

Prices are what MiHec says they'll be. I'll have to check that out.

Sequence of events: Participants order molds and are placed on the list, the Group Buy will close (which will be posted on the thread) at some time determined by MiHec, the molds are made from the orders on the list at the time it is closed or by altering what you want via PM to MiHec after it's closed. Extra molds should be available... order them by PM to MiHec or contacting MP Molds directly . Invoices will be sent out via e-mail from the listed e-mail addresses and you pay by using Paypal...... It is my understanding the invoice will be in Euros which Paypal converts from Euros to dollars dependent on the time that occurs. After you pay, the mold gets shipped.

Prices are somewhat variable due to the exchange rate.... be aware of this.

Why you need this bullet mold.


There are a whole slew of reasons I wanted to run this bullet. Some applications off the top of my head are as follows. I hope you guys would chime in and let us know how you intend to fit this particular cast slug into your sixgunning.

First, there are a whole bunch of 44's both Special and Magnum that have a "too short" front sight. This one will bring those sixguns home. There is a possibility that the other side of that coin was that some 44's might not sight in with this one for the front sight being too tall.

Second, How many of you guys have a Charter Arms Bulldog? Or a Smith and Wesson 329? Standard weight (240s) slugs have a pretty good bite in those guns don't they? Here is a "low recoiling" option. Or, if you do like I do and use your 329 as a 44 Special, this slug gives me the opportunity to go back to the 44 Magnum case so as not to build up a carbon ring forward of my 44 Special cases in my 44 Magnum Chambers. This will also work for the all steel lightweight custom sixguns we have seen as well.

Third, SPEED! One day, just to see what it would do, using 2400, I worked my FA97 44 Special running a 180 grain JHP up to 1400 fps with no apparent signs of pressure. Now, Bob Baker did ask me to back off that load a bit and I did, but the Flattop Ruger 44 Special is a pretty stout little sixgun. I have one with a 7 1/2" barrel and I bet it will make 1400 pretty handily. I'm pretty sure you would exercise good judgement when loading this little rocket for your own FA97 44 Special.

Fourth, FLAT! This is no long range bullet. Pushed hard however, to practical sixgun ranges, I bet it will get there and right now and go splat. Jackrabbits, Skunks, Coyotes beware. Not a big game bullet this. Whole nother application.

Fifth, Easy Shooting. Do you have a older more sedate 44? Are you getting to where you don't want to put up with mega recoil? This one should get your short range paper puncher out of retirement and back in the saddle without excess wear and tear when loaded for the Gallery.

Sixth, Anti-Personnel. Skeeter decided his 44 Special was easier for repeat shots on felons than his 44 Magnum. This one should close the gap a bit in the big Magnum case.

As I understand, these will all be Cramer-style hollowpoint moulds. You will also recieve flatnose pins for solids, but I do understand that dedicated solid moulds are easier to fit into a budget.

The cramer molds come with pins to cast solid bullets. I am a bit confused by your post. Did you want me to change your GC to a PB mold or do you want me to ADD a PB mold to the GC mold you are already down for?

I honestly don't know. What I can tell you is Miha sells molds on far more forums than you might imagine. Many of these are European. So, the question is, has a demand for that type of mold already been created? If so, than Miha will have the cherry and will make you one. I suggest you PM him and see what he says. Miha determines the production schedule. I'm afraid I don't message Miha for updates. I suspect he is building molds as quickly as he can. What most don't realize is he sells molds on any number of forums many of which are European. Again, these buys take patience. The reason so many people hang on for the length of time required is because you can't get molds like these from any other maker. The first ones we ever got were just excellent and if anything he has gotten better than ever. It takes time to produce such excellence.

I haven't received an invoice either. I am really excited about casting this boolit and shooting it thru my CA bulldog. I hope to hear something soon ... I'm ready to cast !!! I have 1000 new gas checks ready to go on the bottoms of those little lead soldiers ....

Got my invoice! Now I’ll see if this one is faster to arrive than the .359 Hammer. Still have not received that one. Oh well, I knew it was a slow process when I signed up! :). This is the mold I am REALLY anxious to get! I can’t wait to try it!

EDIT: Just looked closer at the invoice I paid today! I hope this is just a typo either on Miha’s part or PayPal! Because I sure don’t want a “hollow base mold”. ;)

I got the same, after getting Miha to send me a PB instead of a GC mold. I assumed it was a typo and paid the invoice.

Mailman showed up today with the mold while I was in the shower sooooo he took it back to the post office !!!! Guess where I'll be first thing in the morning!! With a heat index of 100+ degrees all week & I cast outside it's break out the fan & slow down the cadence. Just can't wait to try this one out!!:bigsmyl2:

No tracking info but today I received even better info - the mold itself. Looks great of course and has a fully baggies of accessories, aka pins. Now if I wasn't busy replacing an HVAC unit and water supply line to the house...

Degreased, washed, preheated 3 times (no patina) and it casts very easy with cup and long pins. First casting and it look cavernous. Deep HP with my pure lead+3%tin alloy weigh 181grs (no lube, I Powdercoat)

I received an invoice and was finally able to pay tonight. For some reason, my computer didn't like the invoice or the software that created the invoice. It kept failing everyday for more than a week. I finally was able to get in to go through tonight, At least it appears the payment was finally accepted through paypal. We'll see if it actually gets to MiHec and the mould gets delivered or I am out $105 american dollars ....
