Miha reports: PLEASE CLOSE THIS ONE

This is a re-run of the vastly popular .311" 130 grain boolit perfect for the 300 Blackout. It's been run a couple of previous times, and every time it was a sellout. So, we are doing it again. The 300 Blackout continues to be a popular chambering. It's also an awesome boolit for the M1 Carbine.

This buy will be available with some variations:

2 or 4 cavity, please specify which version you desire
plain base or gas checked, please specify which you desire
Available in hollow point or solid, please specify which you desire
Available as .311", or .314", please specify which you desire

4) 2 Cavity Solid, Plain Base or Gas Checked - Solid Bullets ONLY PRICE: 63.75 Euros
5) Can be added to any version of this buy, DHL shipping is an additional $8 (US) Please specify if you desire this shipping method. Otherwise shipments not designated as DHL will ship regular postal service.
6) I need your zip code so that we can provide tracking and shipping confirmation for regular post service shipping. No Charge, need zip code in all listings, please.

These prices are the 15% discounted price.

Add a set of high quality handles to any mold order for only 20 Euros extra, the handles will ship with the molds.

NOTE: Each of these molds can be produced for you in any dropped bullet diameter, including .311", .314". That will allow you to size and load these in a variety of cartridges and rifles. AR/AK, whatever. They are well suited for a number of uses. NO MIXING OF Bullet types or diameters in any mold.

We require 25 molds, total, to proceed with this buy. All prices are quoted in Euros. Miha will issue PayPal invoices in Euros, which when paid, will be paid at the current exchange rate in US Dollars. You do NOT have to use PayPal to pay the invoice. The invoicing system will allow you to use any credit/debit card for paying the invoice. Please provide your preference for number of cavities, plain base or gas checked, and size of bullet, zip code, and whether you want the handles and the DHL shipping method.

If you are building a 300 Blackout, or any gun which would benefit from this boolit, get on the list ASAP. I would expect that this one will go quickly. If any questions, please PM me here.

We'll need the obligatory 25 HP orders as is Miha's need for re-buys on hollow points. It has to do with the minimum purchase he has to make for the pin sets. We are already at 28 Hollow Point orders, plus the three solid nose. When we get to 25 HP's, Miha will close the buy, so this one will likely go quickly!

NOW AVAILABLE WITH ALL MOLD ORDERS - HANDLES! Handles (which fit all MP-Molds), ordered separately, are normally $23 Euros, which includes shipping. If you order any handles with the molds, Miha will reduce the price to $20 Euros, and will ship the handles with the molds. So, this is a great opportunity to get a set of Miha's wonderful handles at a great price. Please advise if you want handles shipped with your mold(s).

Please provide your disguised email address, as Miha will use that when the molds are ready, for invoicing purposes. Include number of cavities, and whether gas checked or plain based, and with or without handles. All prices include shipping. If you order the mold with handles, the handles will invoice at a discounted price (additional 20 Euros), and will ship in the box with the mold.

To assist with providing you tracking and shipment confirmation details, I will also need your ZIP CODE. And, finally, we will offer, for an additional fee of $8 (US) the option to ship your mold(s) via DHL Rapid Delivery. That's three days, door to door. It's an extra fee, but will get your mold(s) to you very fast, even during the upcoming holidays when everything else historically slows to a snails pace. So, if you are in on any of the MP-Molds group buys, please provide your honcho with your zip code, and whether you want the DHL shipping.

Price for a 4 cavity solid .311 gas checked?

Yes, two and four cavity only, you choose gas checked or flat based, and the diameter of the dropped boolit.

Interested...are the only solid options listed?

Yes, the nose should be flat enough to avoid the primer issue

would it work in a 30/30 ?

130 grains in solid

Nice!

And is a diameter of .309 as cast possible? If .311 is the smallest, it will be horrific to size down to .309, or?

I have the same MP 311410 4cav HP and I size it to 0.3095” with no problems. I then powdercoat it to get 0.311” which works best in my 300 BLK. Great boolit, very useful with short and long HP pins!

I'll presume that you are somewhat new to casting. It's quite common to buy a .311 mold when you want to end up at .309. Easy to do with one pass.

Waiting for final confirmation from Miha, but effective with all new buys, you will have an option of having Miha ship your molds via DHL for an additional $8 (US) more. Shipping will be 3 days! Once Miha replies back to all honchos with the final details, we will add that option to the buys. IF you want your mold shipped via DHL (with full tracking details), the cost will be an additional $8 US added to your invoice.
219740

Also, we are working on a system whereby even standard Post Office shipments will get tracking details. This will be done via ZIP CODES. Effective immediately, the MP-Molds honchos will require your zip codes, which we will add to your order listing. So, please provide that detail for every active group buy you are part of. Thanks.

I am hoping to reach everyone via this post, but will send PM's to everyone that misses my inquiry here........

Needing to add two additional details to all of my active group buys, so please reply here (or PM if you feel the need)
1) I need your mailing ZIP CODE. We are working on a system whereby future Postal Office shipments will generate tracking details. I'll provide confirmation links at the tail end of each closed Group Buy which will allow you to check on the shipment status, and see where it is. Regular Postal service shipping is included in the cost of the mold.

2) We are now offering DHL rapid shipping (three days door to door) for an additional $8 US, which would be added to your invoice at the time of shipping. Unless you specify DHL shipping, all shipments will go regular Postal Office shipping. Here's the upcoming issue............ As the holidays gets closer, the really really fast postal office shipments that we have recently been enjoying will slow down to a snails pace. We'll all go from celebrating fast deliveries of molds to lamenting that "Aunt Martha's Christmas Cookies" seem to get delivered before your molds do. So, we offer, on all Group Buys from here on in, DHL shipping as an option, for a flat rate of $8 (US) additional. Unless you specify DHL when you give me your order, the mold will ship via regular Postal service, whether it's soon or during the holidays. Seems to me that an additional $8 (US) is a cheap price to assure that the mold gets here quickly by a reputable delivery service, and with tracking details that are pretty solid. So, specify DHL or regular shipment when you place your order.

Now, as I pointed out in 1), your zip code will provide us with a mechanism for providing some tracking details for regular postal service shipments. That will be free, and should be fine for some people.

If you would, therefore, please provide me with your zip code, and whether you prefer DHL shipping for the additional $8 (US).

Reminder: When you indicate your order, I need all of the details indicated in the opening post, INCLUDING your zip code. That will assist us with providing you with tracking details when the molds ship. We have tested the tracking system, and it works quite well, including showing when it reaches Customs, leaves Customs, etc.... If you want that detail, get me your zip codes.

Also, even if you don't want handles or DHL shipping (you'll be begging for DHL come the holidays), please provide your specific instructions with regard to both those details. It will make my job a little easier.

Thanks, added. BTW, no need to over do the disguising of the email addresses. something like this will suffice, "name at somenetwork dot com". We don't want to make it too confusing when Miha is in the middle of creating invoices to send out your molds. I end up having to fix all of them. Thanks for your understanding.

Duke,
I'd like to change my order to standard shipping, please.

kens, I need your disguised email address and zip code please. See James Wisner listing, just below yours for proper formatting of details I need. I am presuming that you do not want to pay a little extra for two day DHL shipping. Added, but I still need details. thanks
Finally, the two offered diameters are .311" and .314". I am not able to change the original "title of the thread" which indicated other diameters are available. Miha was very clear, when we discussed this that 311 and 314 were able to cover all the US and AK style bullet needs (.314 will size easily to 314, 313, 312, and even 311. The 311 will size easily to .311, .310, .309, and .308). So, unless you have massive heartburn with the ordered entered as .314", that's how it will be made.

Per my pm, your comment about solid nose was what was confusing. Normally, a lot of solid nose orders are for plain base molds. So, your order should have just said, " 2 cavity, hollow point, gas checked, all pins, .311"

I have corrected your order. please accept my apology.

NO apologies necessary! I so appreciate your honchoing this group buy, and am privileged to be a part of it. In those words of Forrest Gump, "Stuff happens" -- and, again, appreciate your change to "gas check". Communication has proved to not be my strongest of skills... An English teacher I once had professed if there was indeed communication where folks clearly understood each other -- there'd probably have been a lot less wars fought, less busy divorce courts, et cetera...

On my way out, and have only 25 minutes to get ready for the day. I'll add these four new orders as soon as I return later today. Thank you all for the orders. I am expecting Miha will be closing this one soon.

(NOTE: My day was a day at the beach. Beautiful sunshine. I had a tumor removed from my T3 vertibre in 2012, and the doctors said that I would only have a 50-50 chance of being able to walk. Well, I walked 4 miles up the beach (two miles each way), and was dog dead tired when I got back to my umbrella. But, I love proving the doctors wrong. I fell asleep when I got home, and woke up at 06:30 this morning. So, sorry that I didn't get the orders entered until this morning. If you are ever in the Daytona Beach, FL area, let me know, and I'd be happy to meet up. But, on't hang out on Daytona Beach itself. Te Cape Canaveral National Seashore Beach is a much nicer beach, not crowded, and is the ONLY beach I go to when I go. Sadly, not often enough)

Guesstimating within reason do y’all think these boolits would have a greater accuaracy potential than the Lee 312-155-2r with both being gaschecked?

DukeInFlorida
06-19-2018, 04:23 PM
OMG, anything Lee will have lesser accuracy potential than these custom HIGH QUALITY molds.

It takes three basic conditions for success with cast lead bullets (more if you get into deeper fine details, but three basic ones):
A) The right alloy hardness for the velocity of the bullet
B) The right diameter of the bullet, in relationship to the bore diameter
C) The right lube for the velocity and length of barrel

A gas check, quite simply, makes up for slight errors in any of those three. Out of round is something that a gas check isn't going to fix.

1) Lee is notorious for out of round bullets. Running them through a lubricizer will make them round, but they will never be CONCENTRIC. They will wobble in flight.
2) Lee is notorious for having their different cavities drop bullets with different weights. It's the reason some people prefer single cavity molds, so every bullet is exactly the same.

The MP-Molds are made with highly skilled craftsmen, on state of the art machining centers, from the highest quality materials. These brass molds are very dimensionally stable. That's whyb these Group Buys are for custom molds, and not for Lee molds. I personally gave up on Lee molds decades ago, and now ONLY buy and use high quality molds. And, you have a no questions asked guarantee for near perfection.

If you haven't yet, I urge you to read the FREE "bible", written by one of our own, on the subject of casting bullets, how to do it, what's important, how it works and why:

From-Ingot-to-Target-A-Cast-Bullet-Guide-for-Handgunners (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?110212-From-Ingot-to-Target-A-Cast-Bullet-Guide-for-Handgunners)

Any word on when invoices will be sent? Not impatient just curious.

DukeInFlorida
07-27-2018, 09:25 AM
Not directly in terms of the formal schedule.
We do know that Miha suffered a back injury that set him back a few weeks. As you may know, back injuries are the worst to recover from. He's back on the mend, and back making molds. He has been finishing up, packing, and shipping a few of the group buys there were ahead of this one, so we should be at the top of the schedule soon. As always, Miha will announce when PayPals are out.

Please use this time to check your listed order, and make sure all is well. Miha has mold blocks already in house for this one, so we could handle only a couple of additional orders (he always makes a few extras).
Let me know if I have made any errors on your orders, or if you need me to change anything (like add a handle to your order for the savings that comes with that - 20 EUROS instead of the normal 23 EUROS-) Or, if you want me to send the mold(s) with really fast (-like two days!) DHL shipping. As we get closer to the HOLIDAYS (Thanksgiving and Christmas, and New Years), when all US Postal mail gets clogged down, the DHL shipping can get very handy.

Duke, i noticed most people got the gas checked version. Going to use it for 300blk, would you recommend gas checked?

DukeInFlorida
09-24-2018, 11:02 AM
Yes. Basically, there are three things needed for success with a cast boolit:
1) Hardness of the alloy for the velocity (the faster, the harder. The slower, the softer)
2) Diameter of the boolit for the bore (typically .001" to .002" larger than the bore diameter)
3) Proper lube for the WX and other shooting conditions, as well as barrel length, etc.

What a gas check does is act kind of like a piston ring in your engine. It is a gas seal, and "fixes" slight errors in any of those three factors. So, with Rifle molds, and any special pistol molds, I always specify gas checked.

Don't forget to post images of these castings when you get set up. The "eye candy" always helps when the mold comes up again for re-make.

And, also don't forget.................. Miha always makes a couple extras of these molds. So, if you otherwise feel that you missed out on this or any other mold, please contact Miha directly, and ask for the mold you need. He'll be happy to help.

Thanks to all who ordered.

Yup, mine is also coming FRIDAY. (DHL is kinda like Santa.... he's everywhere all the time! Maybe I should leave cookies and milk?)
And, one of the other nice things about the DHL shipments (in addition to the VERY FAST shipping) is that you can go online (it gave me a link in the confirming email that I got) and fill out a form that will allow DHL to leave the package by your door (or wherever you want it placed) without needing a signature. I have always hated having to be home for post office packages. I won't be here on Friday when it gets delivered. However, I know it will get delivered. And, I also know what I will be doing on Saturday!! I am definitely doing the DHL all the time from now on.

Not from this GB but a great photo of 311410 with long pins. After cutting sprue I lightly tap on hinge pin to start open the mould halves then I turn mould upside and finish opening with taps and with handles. They fell off pins immediately. Maybe the picture of the brass mold is the listing I should have looked at :p.Was way to motivated to order to even look at the specifics. Already was on the list for another mold and have a couple on the shelf that I love already. I am thinking this is what I need, knowing that you can run a brass mold a little hotter than aluminum and I like a extremely fast cadence while casting.

DukeInFlorida

The description of the metal used for machining the mold is ALWAYS mentioned by the honchos. You don;t have to look at pictures of previous runs of a mold to determine the metal, typically aluminum or brass. Read the actual paragraph of the mold description for the metal information. Especially when it is a brand new mold design.

Sometimes, the mold maker offers options in the mold metal. For example, one of my other group buys lists the 2 and 4 cavity versions as being brass. However, the 6 cavity version is aluminum only.

Welcome to the wonderful world of MP-Mold's amazing molds. I know you will be happy with it. And, that you will consider additional MP-Mold offerings.

If anyone has had difficulty in getting their mold, or tracking delivery information, please let me know. I'll do what I can from here to assist.

Yes, you are correct. No mention (in words) about the molds being brass.
However, a couple of things we should all be aware of:
1) Miha likes to make the Hollow Point molds in brass, so most of the time, that is what they will be.
2) The images from a previous make of the mold is a pretty good indicator (although not 100% perfect) of the nature of the current buy manufacturing.

So, thank you for pointing out my omission. I'll try better in the future to be more precise. I'm hoping that you, and all who purchased this mold are happy.

Thank you again for buying MP-Molds, and allowing me to be one of the honchos.

Is anybody having feeding issues with these in an AR15? I’m seating them to the crimp groove and my gun does not want to grab that first one for anything, fully loaded or with only 10 in the mag. The gun loads them fine during cycling but that initial loading releasing the bolt via the catch or pulling the charging handle it’s fliping the round up too much in the front and almost seems to be pushing the back down.

DukeInFlorida
10-19-2018, 01:13 PM
Sounds less like a boolit issue, and more like a mag or feed ramp issue.

There are TWO overall lengths mentioned in all reloading books:
1) The COAL mentioned on the first page (Title Page) of that cartridge is NOT the length to seat all bullets to. That page shows the MAX length that any cartridge can be, and still feed through the magazine, up and into the feed ramp, into the chamber. Anything longer than that COAL will jam in the process.
2) The OAL mentioned on the page where the specific load data is FOR THAT BULLET is the length that you want to use. That is the one that will give you the pressure results that they tested with that bullet.

Now, I know you said that you seated these to the crimp groove. My suggestion is that you ignore the actual location of the crimp groove. And, seat them to a length that is described in a reloading data book.

The 50th Edition of the Lyman book (my usual first resource for any cast boolit load data) doesn't show any loads for a 1340 grain boolit like this one. However, the OAL for the 160 grain (Lyman mold 311672) is 2.050". And, the OAL for Lyman 311332 is 2.110" (another .005" longer).

The trimmed brass length is 1.368"
The nose of the bullet to the crimp groove is .440"
That adds up a bit SHORT ( quick math = 1.808" ) if you seat them to the crimp groove. You might try seating them longer than you have.

I haven't loaded any of these (or even yet casted any) in 300 Blackout yet, and so haven't tested them. What is your OAL when seated to the crimp groove??

Gamsek

I have been playing a lot https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181019/1f580d0e1fa26e28c1e5e4a88f9f9424.jpgwith 311410 this year and it feeds fine from my Ruger Ranch 300 BLK magazine if my COL is 1.968” (50mm) or longer. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181019/abc6de05813f505a419e464a4fd0208a.jpg

DukeInFlorida
10-20-2018, 12:14 PM
Thanks, Gamsek. That confirms my rough calculations.
In the 300 Blackout, making them close to the 2.000" over all length should work fine. Nothing wrong with assembling them to that length. You do not want to be seating them a lot longer. That would so the seating into the lube groove, which would not be productive.

But, seating them, as 300 Blackouts, into the crimp groove, with a semi-auto rifle, might not work well.

Keep in mind that this is a multi-purpose rifle boolit. The 300 blackout is only one of the uses.
It can also be used as a heavy 30 carbine boolit. Or, a light boolit for any of the normal 30 caliber rifles ( .308 win, 30-30, etc). And, the larger diameters can be used for any of the European rifles (91-30, 303 Brit, etc). Lots of options, but each one requires some adjustment. The bolt actions are easier to work through.

Hello; My mold finally arrived today,a four cavity, gas checked, .311dia, solid nosed, very well machined mold! I was beginning to be concerned as there was no "buzz"about the molds only "I got mine". I fired up the furnace and started casting, mold was somewhat slow to heat up,it has much mass, unlike many of my molds this one in on spec for size, weight and the gas check shank is perfect. I cast a couple of hundred, installed gas checks and powder coated. I loaded six dummy rds in .300Blk brass and they cycled from the mag without a hitch, this is the primary rifle I'm hoping to use this bullet in. I have been using Lee 155,however the slightest thing will cause stoppage due to the nose dia being on the brink of too large and I powder coat all bullets. If this 130gr bullet performs as it appears it will,I'll be one happy ole man!! Thanks to all who ramrodded the buy! lreed

The problem with starting a new discussion is that you will often find that MOST people who wanted one of these molds already got one. It will take a LONG time to go around again, and have enough people who add their names. I've seen second go arounds take over a year. The current rules for discussion is that any discussion that doesn't get enough "traction" in 90 days gets pulled from the discussion phase. I've already had a few drop out of the discussions for that reason.

It's best to be checking the discussions as well as the active areas for molds.

I would suggest casting with straight wheel weight alloy. Anything else would be too soft. You can also "water drop" the wheel weight castings to speed up the "age hardening".
There are posts in this thread regarding the overall length to assemble them to. I suggest that you carefully learn from those posts.

I have been reading all that I can find on this mold with 300 blk. I do plan on powder coating and gas checking.
I have seen very little range tests and accuracy reports and was hoping someone has found some usable loads.
Thanks again to you and everyone else.

Mostly subsonic but you will see you can use very soft lead with GC. Accuracy was nice. Very versatile light varmint/roe deer bullet

Thank Gamsek, you are the only one I have really seen post much with this combination, at least that I could find. I do plan to shoot supersonic though. I may make a separate thread for this topic. I hope the weather in Al works out this weekend so I can try this out!

Keep us posted! I too plan to move into supersonic area this summer with N120 and D060, I will use pure lead with 5%tin and copper GC, short pin. Will try to hunt with those.

Powder coating isn't as successful as epoxy coating (Hi Tek). However, either type of coating will not benefit from the use of a gas check. To gas check either a powder coated or Hi Tek epoxy coated bullet would require installing the gas check first, and then applying the coating over the gas check. Counter productive in my book.

Basically, the gas check provides somewhat of a piston ring action. It serves to provide some error correction for alloy hardness, sizing, and lube. That's all negated when you coat a bullet. The coating provides the lube, slight oversizing, and fixes any issue with hardness of the alloy.

You might benefit from reading the areas relating to alloy hardness, sizing, lube, and gas checks in Glenn Fryxell's Book, "From Ingot to Target, A Cast Bullet Guide for Handgunners"
It's free, and here: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?110212-From-Ingot-to-Target-A-Cast-Bullet-Guide-for-Handgunners

Glenn might want to update that book with details on coatings, such as powder coatings and epoxy coatings.

In my own tests with both coatings, the powder coats were too hard and crispy, causing bullets to strip the coatings while using an inertia bullet puller to remove the bullets from crimped cases. While the two part epoxy coated bullets (Hi Tek) allowed the coating to remain firmly on the bullet through the inertia bullet pulling process. The difference didn't appear through the normal test, smashing with a hammer. Hammering isn't part of the normal firing process, while the inertia bullet pulling simulates firing theb bullets from a cartridge. So, in my humble opinion, if you are going to coat a bullet, the Hi Tek epoxy coating is the only one to use, and can be done at home. But using a coating negates the need to use a gas check, even on rifle bullets. I prefer the old method of using a proper bees wax type lube on properly alloyed and sized cast bullets, with a gas check installed. No coatings for me.

The best simulation of shooting a polyester coated (powder coated) cast bullet is to - actually shoot it.

PC before GC or GC/size before PC - they both work. Use good (Eastwood, Smoke4320’s powders) that gives you smooth thin polyester coating and follow instructions how to apply, bake. Size accordingly to what works best, for my 311410 and R.Ranch it was 0.311”.

Maybe they don’t survive pulling them out of case, but my coated 311410 definitely survived 16” of Ruger’s Ranch barrel and 12” of wet paper.

DukeInFlorida,
Those are good reads indeed. Read them a while ago along with all of the LASC articles. I almost pursued a minor in Materials Engineering because of it. I have tried Hi-Tek along with several powder coats, I like Smoke420's PC. I have some expanded 9mm from another MP mold that have retained all of the coating (like Gamsek's 311410s). I plan on trying this 311410 with and without gas checks. I think the gas check may help in catching the rifling. We will see if there are any differences. It would be neat if this mold had PB and GC bases in the same mold.

Would be too expensive to make that way.

I would think you could have someone mill out the GC on a couple of cavities.

Try without GC, I got decent groups (no load development, no ladder test...) at 80m with 4.5grs of TrailBoss without GC sized at .311”https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190228/e6ee76c86b50289bc0e46891ca9b049c.jpg same day, same 4.5grs, same bullet with GC sized to 0.3095”, groups were 2x larger.

Exactly this one, deep HP, subsonic into wet paper, pure lead with 5% tin

I am aware, just would be neat. I have watched Mihec's videos and realize it would not work well. Would be very time consuming.
Gamsek, I am considering having one gc shank cut out. That would still leave 3 gc. If it shoots well I could always get another done.
Also, your really making me want to get a TC barrel or bolt action for the 300 with those sub loads.

Got a chance to cast some yesterday and sorted them today. I went with one solid pin, two med. hp pins, and one deep pin. Powder coated a small batch then added a few gas checks afterwards. Those went on easily over the powdercoat. The upper right hand bag are lee 150 fn.

For the powder coat, I use the piglet method of dry tumble with airsoft bbs. My PC is from smoke420. Here it is on one of these boolits after being pulled. 237247
And also on some expanded mihec 9mm:

I plan on ordering more of his colors to test.

In order to not take up anymore space on this thread, I am starting a new one for this boolit specifically with 300 BLK.
Can anyone comment if this should be done in group buy results, or one of the load subforums?

Thank you

I would suggest creating a new thread in the casting area, and then coming back to your post here, and providing a link to the new discussion.
