I had occansion to be standing around a pickup truck of a friend during a bull session. Some one saw a grave marker in the back and inquired about it. He stated it came from the grave of a relative that had gotten a headstone, so the metal one supplied by the funeral home wasn't needed. A discussion arose about the composition of the metal the letters were cast from, and one local expert opined it was pewter. I examined it and determined that the whole bracket mount and letters were all of the same material, so asked if I could melt it down to see if it was indeed pewter. Turned out to be zinc. Made a nice oatmeal slush, even at a relatively high heat. Thought I'd post this just in case some else may think they've found some free tin. DALE

Be interesting to know what the company selling them to the relos of the deceased claim they are made of.
