Had a lengthy range day working with a jacketed and a cast bullet in 3006. Never loaded a jacketed rifle round before yesterday. I tested 6 jacketed loads and all but one would be dead deer to 300 yards.

Cast has been another story. The previous try with this bullet I tried 6 or 8 loads and had complete failure. This time I tried a different seating depth and a different powder and.tested 8 loads. Four were accurate and two were also powerful enough to be 150 yard deer loads.

You definitely have to want to tinker and.shoot to develop cast rifle loads. Then again, the jacketed bullets cost ten times what the cast do.

Boolit was the noe 311 195 weighing 198 grains. The highest charges that were accurate were 27 and 28 grains of 4198. I tried a ladder of varget without any success.

The jacketed load was a 165 grain nosler partition over 49.5 grains of varget.
