Actually on the 1st day of your birth month you can use your social security card. My 65 day is the 26th of April and my social security info says its good on 4-1-18. Yours is also valid on the 1st of April.

Tom ..... congrats.....Happy Birthday and long life as well.....when I hit 65 I was able to dump the lousy insurance from where I retired and actually got a great raise! I have used it several times and Medicare has been much better and easier to use than the insurance I had!

The company I work for puts out $660 a month toward a single plan and I put out the rest. So, effective the 2nd friday of this month it will be like receiving a raise. Medicare has to be better than the Blue Cross and Blue Shield that most of us currently have.

6bg6ga I would not count on that.

In my case I opted for the Part D, found a plan that listed the 2 drugs I'm on.
Within a month the company no longer covered the blood pressure med, went from 35 a month to 560$ a month. The rest I have not used much. Recent doctor visit was 63$ for my share which is not out of line. Higher than I like.

Ohhh and I'm getting my meds from Canada, same pill, same shape, same color, same dose. 260$ for 3 month supply.

From what I have seen Medicare and supplements are deliberately trying to separate older citizens from their money. After all they have it in most cases.

I passed that milestone last month. As long as LOML continues working we have her State insurance, and don't use the Medicare. Got an advisor investigating our options for us.

Went on it back in Nov. Just finished up cataract surgery. $19,000 for both eyeballs. Medicare and BC/BS Supplement covered all bills. It's good to be 65+.

Retirement!! Woo Hoo!!Do what your health and finances allow. I watched my father in law refuse to enjoy his retirement. He retired from a state job with a good pension. He had a small ranch also. Always had to have a couple cows so he couldn't leave the ranch. Cows meant he had to raise hay. Raising hay meant he had to irrigate. Having to be around to irrigate meant he could never leave in the summer. Cows meant he could never leave in the winter. Any event in his grandkids life took second place to the ranch. 5 years ago he had a stroke. Now he sits in a chair and wishes he had done some of the things he always said he would do. In the 38 years I've know him the only thing he would leave town for was a car show.

I got the red white and blue card a year ago. I buy a supplemental policy that includes part D. Been good so far, way better (and about $600 a month less) than BCBS was.

I had to retire over a year ago due to the colon cancer. It wasn't fun nor cheap.... Still isn't. But I'm still kicking...
