Son just told me he has (as a surprise!) has a 1968 Winchester 264 Winchester mag - has a chum w/6.5 Creedmore, and son will be getting a 260 Rem shortly. So.
I need a good 6.5 mold to supply these guys. Suggestions?

I'd first compare SAAMI chamber/barrel specs before turning to NOE to see what they have that fits best. NOE has the best variety of 6.5 molds.

Do a pound cast and get the the throat and bore diameters. The 6.5 mm molds are vastly limited. I have the RCBS 6.5 SIL mold and the NOE 6.5 Grendel. The Grendel mold works great in my greandel but both drop nose/bore rider section too big for .260 Rem. Experimints with .260 Rem havent been good. It makes me seat really deap and jamed into the lands. Wrecks havoc on chamber pressures and accuracy suffers. So far the only reasonably accurate load was a light charge of red dot for the .260 Rem.

My .260 Rem bor is about .256 (give or take i a am working off memory) and both the Rcbs and Noe bore rider/ nose section around .258ish as cast with my alloy.

I just got the nose sizing work out though for my .260 Rem. I can now seat the bullets out about an extra 1/8ish of an inch out without being jammed into the lands and the bolt is easy to close. I need to now redo all my work ups. I now expect to find at least a few accurate loads in the velocity range of 2000 fps.

The .260 or atleast mine has a short throat and almost no leade.

As far as custom molds, i havent been able to find a drawing for 6.5 mm that would suite the .260's needs. I imagine one would have to be created to be sent off and drawing that is beyond my understanding.

May I ask where you got your data for the Grendel with cast???

Im disappointed to hear that the NOE 266-125 Grendel doesn’t work, I was just about to order one for my .260 Rem as well. I’m looking for a plinking bullet to let my daughters practice.

What about this one? I got to admit that I’m not too familiar with boat tail bullets when it comes to casting. http://arsenalmolds.com/bullet-molds?product_id=193&limit=99999999999

I just saw a 6.5 bullet on NOE for the Creedmoore. It looks like it has the right diameters. I woukd love to try it.

I have also been using the RCBS 6.5 SILH in my 260 Rem and it has been problematic with every load so far.

Your 260 has a 256 bore? That's 257 Roberts territory. In any case, we'll see what turns up. I bought the 145-grainer from Swede, should receive it in a day or two, or whenever. Also ordered a 264 size die set, and will graduate up to a 265 or 266 if there is a problem - GC's could control some situations...

Keep us updated. I am assuming you ordered the 270-145- FN? I want to know how that bullet works in the .260 Rem. Load data is sparse for cast for .260 but it is similar to 6.5×51 and thats the load data I use for reference. There is a lot of data on the 6.5×51.
