Just got this beast in on Friday. 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4x4 diesel-powered 10-passenger van. We are going to use it for executive transport. I work for a smaller corporation (5k employees) in the security department and we were asked to start providing executive escort and protection.

So, to get our executives to events, we bought this. They love it! A couple of them have already taken it for a joy ride over the weekend.

It is the quietest diesel I have ever heard (or not heard) but I have only been around big rigs and pickups. I thought my dad's Duramax was quiet. This is quieter.

I used to have a CDL and owned a dump truck business years ago. This things feels bigger when behind the wheel. One of our guys refuses to drive it; says it is too big and he's afraid he'll hit something. He's former Marine Infantry. Sissy...

Amazing what $63k will get you in the van market these days.

Thats a nice looking ride! 63K sounds reasonable for that rig and cheaper than I would have thought. Whats the law about CDL and passengers? Seems like it is required at 15 or 16? I'm sure your company will pay for the license if you need it.

That is a sweet rig. Are they still using the 5 cylinder diesels? I have always found inline engines have great longevity potential. Regardless, good for you.

Several of our newer ambulances are built on the Mercedes diesels like this. Medics seem to be happy with them. Few small issues here and their according to them but no major break downs.

Nice rig. I've looked longingly at their cargo van (similar configuration) but couldn't justify the price.

Does that have to run Diesel Exhaust fluid?

That's a nice rig for that application.

Durable engine, 4WD, good visibility for the driver, plenty of passenger/luggage space.

I'd say you hit home run.

Nope. It has the 3.0l Bluetec motor, I believe.

Depends on those. The ones for heavier truck/high torque applications do but the ones for vans don't. They use a system slightly different from the burn-off system on some Internationals we have. When the soot capture from the diesel reaches a certain point the engines run hot (or something like that, I'm not a mechanic, most likely rich) and the heat burns off the soot. If it gets very heavy a sitting regeneration is required which takes 20min give or take. Mostly it will just do it while your driving down the road. There are less problems with the urea engines, I think. At least that has been my companies experience but the urea is an extra expense. The difference is when the particulate trap on the Internationals gets plugged up you have to take it to a dealer. They remove the secondary filter and bake it over night in an oven. Happens every 200k or so.
