I'm looking for favorite loads for 30-40 Krag, 303 British and 30-06.

I have .308 and .312 Lee molds.

I'm especially interested in cast loads using 4064 or 5744.

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Save us some time and tell us what bullet weights your .308 and .312 Lee moulds cast. The load really depends on the weight of bullet. I can then most likely help with 5744 loads.

Welcome aboard. Since I've been participating in this forum there have been a considerable amount of load info posted for all three of those calibers. You're best bet might be to run a seach of previous threads as see what comes up. Try hitting the "Search" tab in the page header and typing in what you're looking for.

Btw...you might try starting with 17-18 grains of AA5744 behind that 180 grainer in the 30-40. I don't shoot a Krag, myself, but a buddy uses 20 gr with the Lyman 311291 (173 gr GC) in his '98 Carbine.

Surprisingly the 30-40, .303, 7.65 Argie and 7.7 jap all have close to the same practical case volume, for reduced cast loads that is. You will find a good load if you start at 21 gr 5744 and work up in 1/2 gr increments to 24 gr in your 30-40 and .303. Actual best load for your rifles will depend on alloy and sizing. I general find happiness pretty close to 23 gr in my Ross MK10 .303 and that's a favorite load a friend with a #3 Ruger 30-40 uses.....he won't sell it to me-some friend, eh!

25 gr 5744 in two of my M1903 '06s run right at 1825 fps with the Lee C312-185 and shoot 2 moa all day long if I do my part.

I use the 303C mold for my .30s, and .303.
I size to .311 for my .30s, and paper patch to .3135 in the .303. I am still working up a load, however, I am getting reasonable results with surplus 4895, which is close to 4065.
