Some nice 45-70 boolits! They're 350 grain cup point that are gc'd with 56 grain of varget under 'em.

They'll shoot. They have some thump to 'em on both sides for sure! At 56 grn, it's close to a full case but not a compressed charge. My Marlin 1895 has the 22" barrel so I *should* get pretty close to 2k fps, but I have no chrono so I'm just guessing based on load data.

The boolits are from the NOE ranch dog mould and cast at about 340 grain (with the cup point). They are gas checked, PC'd and have been tumbled in alox. They have been sized to .460.

I got a new Skinner sight for my Marlin and I'm going to sight it in tomorrow. Will post a range report. I've got 99 rounds to zero it in, doubt I'll hold up to that many rounds with that kind of power...

I'm just curious...What does tumbling in Alox after PC'in do or is it just for the sizing operation? I'd love to try those in my "86

It *should* add a little lubrication. It is simple to do and takes very little effort. But honestly, it's probably a like a blanky - just a little comfort.

Range report:
I took my Marlin 1895 to the range today and shot about 80 of those rounds. They do have a solid kick, but it is manageable. There are no pressure signs on the primers/cases and my rifle cleaned up pretty easily afterward.

I sighted in a new Skinner sight first and after that I had a three shot group at about 100 yards. Not too bad - I think the group was spread out more because of the shooter and less because of the load. Also, the load is stout enough it isn't comfortable to shoot off a bench. It's much more manageable from a standing position. Anyway, we had fun blowing clays up and chasing the rubber targets around.

My buddy was shooting an AR15. He decided he would show me where the middle of the target was. :-/

well done! nothing like pictures to explain the results

My days of hunting are over (two rotator cuff surgeries) so I'm at the low end of the powder range. Ya gotta do what you can to keep shooting
