Just bought a very nice Renagade. Its going to be a 50yd plinker to take along with my 22lr Sillhouette gun.

Im just punching paper so no concern with power.

Im assuming a .495 mold. I have a lot of Kik and swiss 2F. How low should I start to find a 50yd paper load?

Most of my muzzle loaders are 50 caliber and I use 0.490 round balls with pillow ticking. My Lee mold says .490 but they end up as .495 so I use 0.010 commercial patches. I use 70 grains of Goex FFG or if it is cold I bump up to 80 grains to get a bit more oomph. You could start with 60 grains and work around that.

T/Cs have shallow rifling and 1/48 twist. I know they like to be pacthed tight!

50 gr 2F is a good place to start for target loads, you can drop down to 40 gr for 3F that's what my rifle likes for trail walk loads . Go up or down 5 grs and see what the rifle tells you .

With swiss start at 40-45 grains per volume and go up from there.

1 grain per caliber + 5 most always gives good accuracy .

I shoot a Renegade a lot in our monthly club matches. I use a .490 ball and 0.025 ticking. I use 50gr of ff for 25 and 50 yards. I bump it to 60gr at 100 yards. I do have to adjust my aim point at 100 yards. You just have to try a .490 and a .495 and see which works better for you.

Working up the loads is half the fun and you never know what you didn't try. Start at 50 or even 40 an work up in 5 gr increments.
