View Full Version : heaviest possible boolit for 357

The 357 has a very long case. I would think you could mold a very long boolit and still have room for a powder charge and stay within overall length requirements. What is the maximum weight possible or has been tried. Imagine a 250 grain doing 700 fps instead of 125 grain at 1400.
For most revolver uses at less than 15 yards bullet drop is not an issue. Just wondering what has been tried and even if really heavy makes sense.
Heck even if it tumbles it might make a heck of a wound channel. Thanks for any experienced input.

216910 I have shot a 200grain RN at magnum pressure using a .38spec case. This combo just fits my S&W model 13 cylinder. This round exceeds the max length for .357.

Magma offers a type III wadcutter mold at 230grains but I have no experience with that boolit.

That Lyman mold is pretty hard to find, but NOE makes em in both solid and hollow point goodness as well now.

Rcbs 180 gr silgc boolits works well in my win trapper with 2400 .its usually 195 gr when I cast them .
