The wife has 2 corned beefs going right now and 2 heads of cabbage as well. Got some folks coming over from church.

Hope you all had a very fine one yesterday and the top of the day was with you.I ended it with potato wine last night.Home made that is.

Ever wonder why we eat Corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's day?????

Saint Patrick was the patron saint of Ireland. He passed on March 17 460AD.

He was not even Irish, he was born in Britain.

At the age of 16, he was taken prisoner by a Irish raiding party, and taken back to Ireland.

During his time as a prisoner, he turned to Christianity. He believed god talked to him.

After he escaped Britain back to Ireland, god told him to return to Britain to spread the word.

After 15 years of study, he became an Ordained Priest.

He was sent back to Britain to minister to Christians and convert the Irish. He did not bring Christianity to Ireland. It was already there.

In Ireland they ate little beef. Cows were used as farm working animals. They instead ate pork.

The original meal to honor St. Patrick was cabbage and pork belly, with root vegetables.

When the Irish came to America, beef was more available than pork for some reason.

Being poor, they substituted preserved beef for pork belly.

This is how we came to eat corned (preserved) beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day.
