Ok, it was a long time ago that I was looking to relaod 45ACP.

the price of bullets (10yrs ago) was just too high for my budget so I aimed towards the cheaper ones. 9mm at the time was extra cheap.

I guess I've just forgotten how much fun shooting my 45 ACP was because cost was always a factor prohibitive from shooting it a lot. Eventually it got relegated to the back porch, so to speak, as other interests took over.

I've always carried a 45 for protection but hated practicing with it because factory ammo or my reloads were just too pricey.

Well after I got back into casting things changed. They SUDDENLY changed for the better when I got an RCBS 200SWC. The mould casts like a dream, and in no time I had about 200 bullets ready to go.

I really wasn't too warm about the design as SWC have not been good to me in the 1911 model's I've owned.

so I really didn't have too high a hopes for this. I loaded up some rounds and tested a few in the back yard. So far so good. I loaded up 50 to shoot next time I was at the range.

Well to my surprise my gun loved them! 50 shots just went too quickly... I was hitting the target good and it was fun to shoot! Even MORE fun when it was CHEAP!

Now that boolits are cheap! I'll be shooting lots more!

Suddenly the 45 is viable again for me to shoot!

Yeehaw!

I'll be putting my Kimber 1911 Ultra Compact through the ringer again... :)

I agree. I enjoy shooting my Charter Bulldog 38 Special, but my 1911 45 is just more satisfying, for reasons I'd be hard pressed to explain. Maybe it's the single action for every shot without having to cock the hammer, or the greater sense of power or fire power, or maybe a sense of nostalgia of the 1911's history, or all the above. Ahhhh the 45acp, I love mine.
It goes boom when I pull the trigger, Knocks things over really nice, is very accurate, eats everything I give it, makes a very nice big hole, and with enough rounds it can change the profile of most landscapes. Ha,Ha,Ha love it.

9MM, 38, 40, 22 well they all can get a little bigger but the 45 ain't going to get smaller.

just my happy little 2 cents :castmine: :Fire: :drinks: [smilie=1:

Hey Blammer
This forum is what got me back into shooting my 45's. It's hard to go out and spend 35 bucks or more to pop a hundred rounds in no time. I bought a couple of molds and started reloading the 45's for the first time.
Ain't nothin like boomin one of them with a few boxes of CHEAP ammo.
Have fun

Blammer: I'm a recent convert to the 1911 - CFI got me into reloading and casting, and we've been casting 230gr truncated cone bullets for the .45acp using recycled wheel weights. They feed/function perfectly in my Rock Island 1911 Commander.

Previously, we were casting 125gr RNL boolits for my Glock 9mm with a Wolf aftermarket barrel. I sold the Glock to buy the RI 1911 - best move I ever made!

Blammer, I had great results with the Saeco 185 grain 4 cavity SWC for the years. I ran a bucket of wheel weights a month threw my 45. The gun was custom built with an Safari Arms Frame, Springfield Armory slide and fitted Barstow barrel and bushing. I could break Gatorade bottles at 50 yards like one right after the other. The semi wad cutter is VERY accurate.

+ 1 for the SAECO #130 in 185 gr SWC, and/or the H&G #68 in the same size and shape, with 3.5 grains of Bullseye.

Another good one to look for is the Ideal/Lyman 452460 200 gr SWC. They show up on evilbay in 4 C every now and then and work very well through all of my 1911s, even the USGI stock Ithaca.

Back in the '80's I had a Giles custom .45 1911. Built by John Giles in Odessa, Florida. It was guaranteed to shoot 1 3/8 groups at 50 yds. from a ransom rest. I never did get that good, lol. But I won the Fla. State Championship with it in '81..Sure wish I had that gun today. It was some good shooting pistol...

Blammer I have rediscovered the .45 ACP myself. I have wandered and strayed over to the .40 S&W, but like the prodigal son I have returned. More people are shooting the .45ACP than ever before these days. It is the cartridge that has gotten me into casting my own Boolits.
I have two Springfield Armory .45s. I have a Longslide stainless steel Trophy Match with a 6inch bull barrel, and a champion which is their shorter commander length version. I loves the .45 ACP, and that's pretty much the long and short of it.
