Hi all, I have acquired a Lee Enfield "Tanker" in .303 Win and was thinking of using it as a gallery plinker.

I have seem a lot of discussion on here about using the Lee C309-113F "Soup Can" bullet in .308 win and have been looking for an excuse to use the mould / buy a new one for a while :-)

There are quite a few threads on here discussing load data for the combo, so thanks guys and thanks to the search engine.

What I haven't seen or have missed, is discussion on OAL when the bullet is seated and seating depth. I imagine is going to be very short and short of SAAMI spec ? Any info or issues with this anyone has experience of ?

Thanks.

The pic shows the #4 "tanker"- I will assume you have the Indian 2A smle "tanker" if it's a .308. Personally I would seat to the crimp groove and if it feeds go from there. I am going to try it in two different 30-30s asap so that's my plan.

I love that boolit in my T/C Contender 32/20 which has a 308 bore but I have not had similar results with either of my 308's which both prefer boolits that are heavier. Every rifle barrel has a personality which needs to be discovered so you never know.

It’s a No4 tanker in .308. Quite a few .308 No4’s were made / converted here in the UK in .308 , well marked 7.62 of course.

It has a much nicer mag than the Indian ones.

#4s in .308 are rare over here. Navy Arms sold the cut down SMLE and No.4 in .303 and the Ishapore in .308 in the Second Golden Age of Surplus post 1986. Enjoy that neat little gun you have. You can probably seat the bullet out a bit and be fine.

I like that bullet in 30-06, I seat them just deep enough to cover the top grease groove. I just tumble them. Great shooting little bullet in every 30 cal. I own. Shot them all of my 06 guns but the Garand. Should be happy in a 308 too.
