I am going to cast some 358-200-RF bullets and I am not finding much load data in the manuals I"ve checked.
I'll be using H110/W2296 powder and shooting them from a Henry 357 mag carbine.

What I have found is 11.5 gr. min and 11.5 gr. max with a COAL of 1.540"

I do have some IMR4227 powder but no load data.

I'll use them for plinking and at an occasional coyote or feral hog.

How does that load data look?
Any recommendations?
Thanks

If it is the Lee 200 gr you may have to load it in 38 sp brass. I do.

My M-92 Rossi must be loaded with 38 spec cases with the Lee 358-200. I use 38-44 load data in mine.

I use 12.9 gr IMR 4227, recoil is less than full house 357 mag 158 gr.

This is new to me.
So, those that use the 38 special case is this because the bullet would be set too deep in a 357 mag case, thus too much pressure?
James, thank you for your reply. If you don't mind, what COAL do you use with the 38 spcl. cases?

What's missing is the COAL.
The powder amount is the Max., I assume?

We have guys at the range saying the same thing, need to use 38 SPL. Cases. I fail to see why. At the same OAL, both 38 and mag cases have the same internal volume. The only difference is that more of the bullet is covered with mag cases. In my own rifle, mag cases are more accurate. Can anyone explain why 38 cases are considered necessary? BTW, measure the twist rate on that Rossi. The one my buddy shoots is really slow and won't stabilize a 200.

In some lever action rifles, loading that Lee boolit in a 357 case will make the cartridge too long to work through the action.
Loading it in 38 cases makes the OAL short enough to work.

I load the Ranch Dog 190gr in 357 mag
I got Data from Ranch Dog's website

OK, if you are going to crimp it the 38 cases would be the way to go. I don't think about crimping, since we shoot all our silhouette stuff single loaded.

If you really have that much freebore, go for it.

BTW: Both my 1894 38-Special Competition and `94 357 Cowboy love this bullet/cartridge.
My `92 Win/357 doesn't like it at ... all.

Adequate OAL is very important when talking max allowed charges.

On the other hand, having a crimp and an OAL that is short enough to fit a revolver or feed in a lever gun is a must for many users.

Using 38 Sp cases with magnum level loads normally needs extra caution to ensure the loads never end up in a 38 Sp gun.

With a 200 gr boolit, the OAL in a 38 Sp case is probably too long to fit most (but not all) 38 Sp guns.

If you want to be more safe, 357 cases can be trimmed to allow both feeding and crimping with a 200.

Previous threads discussing 200s include

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?292763-Heavy-boolts-for-38-357

and

With respect to 357 mags in a lever gun, most of these guns can also handle a 44 magnum. If you have a lever gun where the same basic gun is sold in 44 magnum, then your gun can probably handle 357s at pressures that will loosen primer pockets before it hurts the gun. It is nice to have this kind of safety factor.

Based on use by those willing to push things pretty hard in really strong guns, H110 / 296 provided really impressive results at pressures that start affecting 357 magnum case primer pockets (look up info on the 353 Casull to see how far the 357 magnum case was pushed).

Note that in general, all regular 38 Sp cases can handle high pressure loads just as good as 357 mag cases. Remember that the 454 Casull was developed using regular 45 Colt cases and it is at the top of the hill for allowed pressures in straight wall cases.

I had Tom design this for my Blackhawks
It is a tight fit in .357 brass
But it works real good

Excellent boolit. Your Henry should love it, I know mine does. I don't remember off the top of my head with the charges I tried with those two powders, but will look it up when I get home. I do know that I had excellent results from 9.3 grains of aa#9. I load in 357 mag cases because I don't like the idea of putting a 357 charge in a 38 special case. I set length at the longest that will cycle; 1.640 and give it a decent crimp.

My 200 grain Lee loaded for 357 mag in 38 sp brass and crimped, will not chamber in any of my 38 sp revolvers. I made sure of this on the first cartridge that I loaded. If they would chamber in the 38 it is only a mater of time before it would happen.

A fun and accurate load in my Rossi is a 193 grains Hunters Supply bullet over 16.5 grains of Reloader 7 and CCI#550 primers. This is an old but published load.

That load using R 7 ought to be real mild. I have used it in the 357 max and you can't get enough of it in the case to get the velocity up much but it's the most accurate powder I have tried.

5.5 grs of Unique is a good load. It will push over rams at 200 meters. On the subject of Special brass in a Magnum gun. A friend uses .44 Special brass in a Freedom Arms. His Boolit started out in a Dan Wesson. When he bought the Freedom Arms the overall length would not fit the very tight chambers. Thus the use of Special Brass. Case life is short with the loads he uses in silhouette.
