So I have a buncha boolits here measuring around .312. Finally got around to slugging my Marlin lever and slug measures .308 bang-on. Should the boolit be sizes down a coupla thou or leave it alone ???

I’d start with .309

If you have a case fired in that rifle you may try to slide the .312" bullet in and out of the case mouth. If the throat is large, the case mouth will have expanded. If it is not a slide fit, then you will need to size the bullet smaller. You must have some neck clearance.

Thoughts from a non-expert:

Make a dummy round and see if it chambers. My 1949 336A balks
at loaded rounds with neck measuring .330. Brass makes a difference, too.
I'm finding nickel plated brass with boolits at .310 is too big, but Winchester brass
chambers OK with .310 boolits.
My 5 other 30/30's will take larger boolits.
If you read a lot here, you will see that most folks favor
boolits sized at .310.

P.S. There are lots of other variables besides diameter.

Thanks, folks. I'm forgetting about neck diameter after bullet is seated in the neck.
