As part of my reorganizing all of the brass in my reloading room, I came across about 200 new Winchester 348 cases that I bought 20 years ago to convert into 43 Spanish for my Remington Rolling Block rifle. I had purchased a box of 20 cases at a gun show that were converted 348 cases and thought maybe I could do the same thing. So, what might be the procedure? I tried the base in the rifle and it fits ok, and the length of the case is roughly ok, so the only problem seems to be the diameter of the case just above the rim, tapered down toward the neck of the case. The converted 348 cases measure 0.517" just in front of the rim and the new cases measure 0.542". So, what technique do I need to use to reduce this dimension since I don't believe I can do it forcing it into the Lee reloading dies I have. :veryconfu

WELL, it is difficult to squeeze that amount of diameter down.
I ended up using a wrist pin from a large diesel engine and a
12 ton shop press. AND I only did one a day to let the squeeze
die rest :)

You could sell the 348 cases and buy 43 Spanish cases.

These are the best

I have a bunch of those, squeezed down in a hydraulic press. Or you can turn off a tad with a lathe MAYBE ! If it gets too thin, your done. Better to sell it off and buy some ready made, unless you have a French Gras or some other that 348 drops into.

Instead of messing around trying to make your own reformed cases, Just call BOB HAYLEY in TX.
He was selling reformed .348 cases for $1.80 ea. He does all the work and guarantees them to fit.
A buddie of mine told me about him and I ordered 100 cases. It might be a few weeks to get them
as he is in his 80's and is a one man show. His phone number is 1-940-888-3352. Call in the
evenings as he is out in the sticks on his ranch. The price I quoted was his price in 2013. might
have gone up as he has to get the .348 brass. A nice guy to deal with, just be prepared to talk
when you contact him. He also has other brass and cast bullets as well. I just hope he is still in
good health.
