Hi Folks,

I like 1911 pistols, and I like reading about them. Please recommend any books you like, either on the care and feeding, modification, or the history of the gun.

Thanks, Tom

Patrick Sweeny's Gun Digest Book of the 1911 vol 1&2, and 1911: The First 100 Years are all probably worth your time.

Jesse Harrison's collector's guides are good if you are interested in determining authenticity of GI weapons.

Charles Clawson's collectors guides are Gold Standard material, though getting expensive. Joe Poyer's cover's a lot of the same material and might be easier to score.

Jerry Kuhnhausen - The Colt 45 Automatic - A Shop Manual.
Must have for 1911 owners.

He also does a great book on the S&W revolver, among others.

The Jerry Kuhnhausen book will get you a long way if you want to really work on it, and even if you don't.
That along with some consulting from an experienced 'smith was how I learned about the gun.
Ditto with his revolver manual.
