Found this bullet mold on NOE's webstore and was wondering if anyone has it and how do they like it. I will be using it in Ruger's NM Blackhawk 44Spec Flattop 5.5' barrel. Loads will be stouter than book mostly around 23,000 psi (Brian Pierce's Level 2). Already have the Lyman 429 and Miha's 503 clone just liked this one as it will cast out around 260 - 270grs depending on alloy. I feel like with a 44Spec anything heavier would result in lower velocities. Was just wondering what kind of performance I would get. Mostly will be used for deer/hog with a remote chance of close encounter with southern black bear as they are starting to be sighted around here a mite more frequently. Just thinking.

This will be of no help I am sure. But, I used the H&G 270 Keith (Type) in my RFTBH in 44 Special some. But it extends into the case almost the same as the H&G 503.
I used 2400 with mine. I cut the powder charge back 1 grain with mine. Shot as well as I can shoot.
Extension into the case is what really makes the difference in loads.
Let's say you lose 75 fps. Do you really believe an animal is going to tell the difference? I don't.

44MAG#1,
Thanks for your input. Have to admit not familiar with the H&G 270 Keith, but with my miha 503 clone, I use 13 grs (Alliant's max) and it runs around 1015fps out of my Flattop. Will do some research on the 270 and see how it compares with the NOE 177.
Again, Thanks for the info and hope you and your family has a happy and prosperous New Year.

With the 503 I ran more 2400 than 13 grains. I got around 1150 from a 4 5/8 RFTBH. I used mostly PowerPistol with the 503. Load ran around 1070 fps and took less powder.

I have the NOE 432-277. Considering the bullets you already have for the .44special I don't see why you need to go even heavier with the 277. Yeah the NOE has a bigger metplat but I don't know how much better or worse it would be that the other 2 considering it is an SWC and has a square top band. My 432-277 drops and around 280-281gr with my alloy. I have the MP 503 also and it is a good bullet, a good "heavy" for the .44special IMO.

If you want a hunting bullet with some metplat NOE makes the 240gr (actually 250) and 265gr Ranch dogs. I have both myself, the 250gr would probably be better suited for the .44spec. I'd probably steer more towards the 250gr and push it on the harder side, it will penetrate.

For those with both the NOE 432-277 and the Mihec #503 clone, I'd be interested to know your experience with the comparative accuracy between the two. I have both and FWIW I cannot get the NOE to shoot anywhere near as well as the Mihec. To the OP, I've shot the HP versions of both into gel and they can both be made to expand well at the pressure/velocity level you are looking at (I use 20:1). The meplat on the NOE is wider, but not enough to make a difference for me.

At what velocity levels were you running the NOE 277? There really should be no reason for it to not shoot very well. How much difference were there in accuracy? Let's say the average of 4 targets from each bullet with the best load was the average accuracy really enough to be concerned about?

Thanks guys for the feedback. Sometimes I sit and ponder too much. 44MAG#1, I use a lot of 2400 and Power Pistol in my 44Spec and I too venture out pass the 13grs of 2400 and have had some really good groups and velocities using loads from Brian Pearce's fine articles on the 44 Spec. I was just thinking that a smidge heavier bullet would add a little more to penetration but I think I am grasping at straws. Probably never ever need more than a stout load of 2400 and the H&G503 around my part of the country. Thanks Again and hope everyone has a happy and smoke filled New Year.

It's only a matter of time before I have a report. A friend of mine got a doe with the .41 Mag version. It performed flawlesslyhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171229/799dae449c3b2a26dd83b53e9882c30e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171229/bff21b7a3e977fe7cd75e05624a44e6e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171229/558c237110929937aeaff7004a494fae.jpg

I got that NOE 432-277 in the plain base version.Mine's dropping right at 276-278 grains with essentially Lyman #2 cut 50/50 with pure Pb.Shooting a Virginian Dragoon kinda new to me so still learning just how good it'll shoot for me.Best groups so far has been 8 grains Titegroup....kinda wimpy for .44mag load but plenty enough for my needs.Stouter loads with H-110 and 2400 hav'nt been satisfactory.Unique has looked promising but only tried up to 10 grains so far.
