I cast some 44 mag boolits from the Lyman 429640 mold...
They're gas checked and lubed with Ben's Red.
The load is 20 grn 2400 and primed with WLP.

My alloy was 3 lb ww + 1 lb linotype...

Those are some deer killin' SOB's right there. I dropped a doe at 28 yards with that bullet several years ago. MASSIVE damage. DRT. Almost the same load, too.

I agree- great bullet. I cast mine with 95/2.5/2.5 set atop a compressed load of 4227. Only complaint is I can't cast them fast enough.

Those are great looking! I never tried casting hp boolits.

What do they weigh?

how do they do as far as wether they fragment or not, that is a big honkin' opening!

mine drop at 266gr. they're advertised as 250gr if I recall- but they're designed to be used with WW- hence the large/wide hollow point.
I've only shot steel and paper thus far, but Glen Fryxell either wrote an article on LASCC or it was a chapter in his book- but I believe he mentioned that with WW there was frequently fragmentation with this mould. this is why I used 1:1 Lyman #2:Pure Pb and likely accounts for mine being 266gr

I'd like to recapture some in ballistic gel- but it's not currently high on the priority list

please excuse me if I hijacked this thread- that wasn't my intention

yeah, I think your alloy is probably optimal, you probably air cool them too right?

Range report:
They shoot GREAT in my Redhawk. I dinged a 10" gong at 50 yards every time and ate the center of a target at 25 yards...

BUT, they did not cycle in my Henry at all. The front is too long, so they stick in the action. If I find that I have some short cases, maybe it would work? But then the pressures are different... So I think they go in the Redhawk, not the Henry...

CLP: Mine were around 265 grn +/- too... Yours look to be a little shorter, though...

I dropped these in water. I tested some rejects and was getting BHN of around 10-12 with one near 15...
