I was at the range today and noticed all the 22LR brass laying around, and I thought 'why cant these be used for gas checks' ???? has anyone tried?

They have been used for bullet jackets, but how you'd get them into gas checks would waste a lot of brass if you only used the rim portion for the check. There might be a way to swage them bigger, but they might have to be annealed and that would soften them too much I think. Pat might be able to figure that one out.

What a great idea! Any "waste" could be just thrown into your scrap brass bucket and salvaged. I would think it would have to be run through a series of dies to be swages up to the dia. you wanted. Each die could be the proper dia. for all the different calibers and you just keep swaging them up and stop at the caliber you want. Might be a fair amount of work, but could be worth it to some (like me). Don't know what dies for this sort of thing would cost?
