I'd like to know which bullet design you have found, that is the most consistently accurate in the 6.5 military twist barrels. I've done fairly well with the 160 Lyman mold. I haven't got too much done yet with the Oldfeller design, and need to do some more with it. I'd like to know any other options to play with. Not looking for high velocity, just consistant accuracy.

All the 6.5 designs i've tried will shoot accurately, very accurately (6 different designs). The problem is they mostly require different techniques to do that and most of them are only good at lower velocities. The 6.5 Kurtz is about optimum for these.

Ric, I have the 6.5 Kurtz as well as another Lee custom job (133gr.; looks like a miniature version of Ly. #311041) and a LBT 143gr. SP. All three shoot within 2 m.o.a. from an "as issued" Swedish Mau., but I need to size the noses and bodies of the Kurtz & LBT to get that level of performance. Powders of choice with the aforementioned CB's are H/IMR 4198 (18-19.5gr.), VV N 133 (18.5-19.5gr.) and WC 820 (15gr.).

I have a Lyman 268645, casts @.270, will fit a Jap 6.5 well.the bullet I use mostly is a Saeco 140gr sized .268 with 22.5gr 3031 or Benchmark around 1700 on the chrono. with mil. sights around 2.5" @ 100yds.

............The slug I have the most experience with is the Lyman 268645. In all my Swedes (2xM96, M38, M38/96, M94, Ag42B) I have found none of them difficult to get shooting accurately with cast.

I have the Jumptrap 1st Edition Lee custom, a 140gr FN, the Oldfeller 172gr Cruise Missle, and finally the recent Lee custom Kurtz. I've yet to shoot the later. I sure haven't found one to be any more accurate then another. Of those I HAVE shot, I've tested the heavy Oldfeller least. Yet that was only due to it's being a SC set of blocks. I just haven't cast as many of them up.

One thing about that 172 gr slug, and that is you should be able to shoot through a telephone pole lengthwise with it.

I recently posted about a casting session with the 6 cavity Lee Kurtz. I have 3 succedingly harder alloys, each with a BUNCH of slugs for testing. I hope to be able to put togther an intelligent testing program that might produce some meaningfull results as to velocity, and accuracy potential.

What you're trying to accomplish may bear more on which slug would be more suitable.

I wish I would have had the spare money for the Kurtz bullet mold. Just didn't happen.
I have no real goal in mind, except to possibly play with another bullet. I'm getting settled into .358, 8mm, 6.5, .30, and .223 for keeper calibers, and am going to weed out a few guns. And the 8mm's may also go. That will mean, I will be able to get some more molds to play with. I'm just going to try and pin down some designs to shoot for. Dave Gullo has a good Loverin bullet for the Swede I may get off of him.
I'm considering getting in on the soup can buy for the .30's, but have been wondering about how they shoot at longer distances.

.........I wish I had a personal testamonial for ya, but I DO have a personal eyewitness account of what my shooting buddy Ron has done with it. In a M94 Win 30-30 with a Leupold VXII 3-9, 21.0grs of H4198 @ 2100 fps he produced several 1-1.25" groups for 5 rounds apiece at 100 yards.

Of course it has the ballistics of a brick so you have to take that into consideration. I posted a photo of a group I shot at 50 yards with a reciever sight and blade front at 50 yards with 8.0grs of Red Dot from a sporter Springfield, on the group buy thread.

It was the proven accuracy of this little slug which caused me to use it in chasing ground squirrels around the place using a 03A1 Springfield and 8.0grs of SR7625. I think in scoped rifle, using good range estimation it is certainly capable of head shots on varmints and small game. Like the 22RF I also think about 100 yards may be about it's usefull limit.

It's a usefull and thrifty little slug, even with a GC. That 6 cavity and a couple hours work will leave you with plenty of can, clod and bunny busting boolits.
