A friend and I got tired of using a torch to anneal brass and there's enough information out there to make inductive case annealers if you don't mind tinkering. So after a bit of experimentation and accumulation of various parts we have our setups. We completed the following annealers from the leftover components and are now for sale. They are primarily water cooled but there is supplementary air cooling. They're compact and capable of annealing a few hundred .223 sized cases in a session. With some ice a couple hundred 'magnum' cases can be completed in a single session. They are not automated or running off timers. Once plugged in, a manual switch turns the work-coil on. For a point of reference I annealed 300 .223 Rem cases in 21 minutes.

*SOLD/SPF* The first one runs off two 12v batteries. It has built-in ~20 amp over-current protection, but can easily be connected to a suitable 24v power supply instead. It has a standard UPS battery pack connector for the main power.

*SOLD/SPF* The second one is a simpler, more compact design...

There are several expensive commercial annealers with lots of bells and whistles. Both of what I have are functional and cost little. They can be improved upon, but this is as far as I have gotten using up the spare parts.

For the first I'd like $90.
Shipping's extra but I think I can fit them in a USPS medium flat rate box.

You can melt the brass if you like. This 30-06 took about 9 seconds to heat this hot:

No, that's not the proper temperature to anneal brass, it's just an example. .223 and similar cases will heat up much quicker!

Very interesting, I'd be buying one or the other if it weren't Christmas and the boiler didn't need to be replaced. Wifey's not happy with out heat, happy wife =happy life!

Certainly! Do right by your wifey. :) Thanks for the bump.

Curious as to the DC voltage vs AC. As a novice, that is a turn off. Yes I use a torch and drill..

If you have 2 car batteries then you don't have to worry about AC/DC issues with the first design. Otherwise, up to 24v DC will work.

How many amps is needed for the first one @24vdc?

The first design has over current protection at 20 amps, so you can drive it with 20+ amp supply and be safe. That's why the batteries are convenient. The 2nd model has no current protection and there's potential to damage the circuitry components without some current limiter. You might be able to get away without current protection on the 2nd one annealing smaller cases as the cases will anneal and you'd turn the system off before the current draw becomes too high.

Nice project - I'm curious - would you post a picture of you "keeper" design?

Novice here
would a computer power supply work on this??

Server rack power supplies would work however they usually only produce 3.3v, 5.5v and 12.5v at high current. You may have to jumper one of the contacts to get them to power on though. RC forums (Radio Controlled vehicle forums) often have pinouts for server grade power supplies that they use to recharge their lithium batteries. They can be found used inexpensively so getting two to power an annealer in series works. The above annealers will work with 12v but they are much slower and you risk heating the whole case up if it heats too slowly. Again, on .22 Hornet, 5.7 FN, and some of the .17s a 12v power supply might heat a thin neck fast enough, it would be much slower on a 45-70 or 300 Win Mag case though.

I'd be interested in one,,, if it was set to run off 110,,, & not a battery system.

I'd be interested in one,,, if it was set to run off 110,,, & not a battery system. Then purchase a 24v DC x 30a power supply off fleabay or Amazon (or the spare one I have ;) ) and it won't require any batteries. :D
