Whenever I go to a forum and click on a topic, I get the error "page cannot be displayed". I have to hit refresh to get it to come up which is, getting to be, annoying. -JDL

JDL,

Interesting that you mention that. I don't have that problem here, but EVERY time I open IE, I have to refresh for the signin page to open. I get a blank screen, hit refresh, and there it is. Really has me frustrated! :?

I got no problem here...

No wonder this site runs on GMT+/- By your 0235 post Thursday when it is 2035 Wednesday Pacific you must be halfway to England. Maritime Provinces? Regards, curmudgeon

You haven't by chance just upgraded your antivirus or spyware? I had problems on one site from Mccaffee(sp?). Try disabling them and see if you still have the problem.

I don't know if it's my imaganation or my puter, but this forum seems to load pages a lot slower then the Aimmo site.and I have cable.

I've noticed that it's slower as well. I use a Linux system instead of Windows, I also have cable. It's definately slower...Ray

Basically it's slower because the software that we use here is called PHPBB software. It's 100% FREE so the code may not all be professionally done. What that means, is slower connection time to grab data, transfer data, and show you the data. They have some nice PAID bulletin boards out there for about 90 bucks we could get a really nice one that would run faster and probably be easier to use... Anyone want to chip in so we can buy this?

Have a look at the options of this board and let me know what you think:

I am going to look around and try and find the best BB out there.

Anything to make it faster and easier at a realistic cost is OK by me. This is now my home page, so you know I'll chip in. Maybe a bake sale too?

Lets start off here... Has anyone seen, or been a member of another forum that has a really nice setup? If so, please post where it was so we can check out that forum software and see if it's suitable for us?

I've got so I really liked the Aimoo set up, the today function anyway, as that is about the only page I really used there.

I like to see the title, and authors name clearly without needing to squint, and I like the pictures to be with the posts in the today feature.

There are some BB's such as Baitshop Boys, where you can upload a picture directly to the message from your computer, without having someplace like Photobucket to stash your images.

Those are just my druthers.

Often I will be able to log in, go from the index page to say Shooters.com, but when I try to go to an individual thread I get a "page cannot be displayed" message. Sometimes I can fix it by logging completely off and restarting. I live in a @#$%&* dial-up only area, if that makes any difference, but it doesn't happen very often on other sites.

Color contrast could be better, especially for those of us who remember FDR. Light blue on lighter blue is giving me a bad squint. It is often said that comparisons are odious, but the aimoo site is easy for even us geezers to see.

Please don't think I am looking for faults to find, I appreciate how accomodating you have been so far. I expect a bug or two on a new site. curmudgeon

can you give me a link to the baitshop boys place so I can check it out..

Guys, have a look at this:

http://www.jeepbbs.net/forums/

Look at that forum, browse through it. This is about the best bulletin board that I've seen out there. It also looks pretty easy for navigation and such. I think this might be the winner for us...

The only thing about it, is the software is 160 bucks so if we do this and raise enough money for it, we have to make sure this is the type of one we want.

Let me know..

I took a look at the Jeep forum. Didn't really care for it. When I click on the today, you still end up with a topics list, rather than a list of posts. On my slow connection, trying to read messages takes forever with that type format.

I got no problem with it. Where do I send my dollar? I suggest you switch before people get too used to this format. Less tears if you change now.

The board format does not really matter to me, however, if the other members want the new format, I'll chip in. Where to send a check??

04-02-2005, 09:33 PM
I am going to create a POLL in this forum to see how many people will want it.. If I get lots of YES's, we will go for it.

I am testing a different FREE board design. This is completely UNOFFICIAL!
But I would like some members that want to help test, to go and create an account and start posting and checking everything out, see if they like it or not and give me feedback on it.

If you are interested in testing this out, please Private Message me or e-mail me and I will send you a link to the new design.
Thanks!
