I recently picked up some cast 175 SWC. I am looking for a starting load for my Taurus 1911. I have an abundance of Unique powder. All the loading references I can find start out with a 185 bullet. I am looking for something with enough power to cycle the pistol but give my wife an opprotunity to shoot the 45 acp round. Thanks for any help in advance.

Alliant Pistol Data
Primer: Fed. 150
5.0" Barrel
180gr LWC
Alliant Unique 6.0gr
875fps
It advises do not exceed powder weight shown. I would drop back to 5.5gr and work up. I'll bet it comes in around 5.8gr. Jim

Find a comfortable accurate load she can shoot first. Then, replace the spring with a 12 lb spring if it doesn't cycle reliably or lock the slide back on the last round.
