Not sure if this has already been discussed.

In short Silencerco released a suppressed muzzle loader that is legal to own without any special tax stamp from the BATF. As I understand it, in the eyes of the BATF a muzzleloader is not a firearm, therefore they are perfectly legal to suppress. The only requirement is that the suppressor must be permanently attached.

I am not really interested in buying a Maxim 50 for a number of reasons, but I am fascinated by the possibilities this could open up.

Could any muzzle loader be legally suppressed?

What about a Sharps falling block that takes paper cartridges?

How about an antique firearm that was made prior to 1899? As I understand the BATF doesn’t see these as firearms either, so would it be legal to suppress one?

ATF (not BATF) is Federal.

Where you reside may have different laws.

Alright, well a muzzleloader regardless of when they are manufactured are considered “antique firearms” in the eyes of the ATF. My original question boiled down to if you could legally suppress any antique firearm?
