Would this be a good bullet for a 30-06 or is it too light? I think they expect 155 grains with WW. Don't know if I would ever shoot siliuettes with it, mostly just like to burn powder.
Also- purchased some lead ingots and wheel weights from the local scrap yard- do I need a hardness tester to see what I have? Who makes a good tester?

What do you want to do? I would not choose it to punch paper with, though it may be OK. It is almost a wadcutter and a deadly game bullet @ 30-30 velocities. I'm sure you could load the '06 to that speed. The Lee 150 is a proven deer killer. The answer is more in what do you want to do and does it fit your bore and throat. Gianni

I have two 311440s. One loads at 157 grains and the other at 147 grains. Both shoot well in my Number 1 .30/06 at 100 yards.

I've had a little better results by about 1/2" with bullets with spire points or RN but they have adequate accuracy for hunting...around 1 1/2" at 100 yards.

Check out Paco Kelly's articles on the 311440 on Leverguns. He's done alot of work with it and I'll have to agree that the 311440 really shines in teh .30/30./beagle
