I bought a Lyman 315 grain minie mold on ebay.

Kind of figured that it was a good target bullet and got a good deal on a new mold ($39 shipped).

I have slugged the bore - and have a .577 sizer.

The 315 grain - says .575 - I have not even recieved the mold yet.

My bore is closer to .578 - will this mold cast on the larger side?

Thinner Skirt - will I be alright - diameter wise?

Target loads (40-45 grains of holy black)

Thanks

Geoff - I know the mold you bought as I was watching it - but I already have one.

It will all depend on what the mold drops at with lead - which is what you want to use. Mine drops right at .575 and the bores on my rifles are around .577 (Armi-Sport 1855 Springfield and 1862 Remington). I like to have about .002 clearance on mine so I don't size them at all. Once fired and with the fouling, they do just fine.

To give an honest answer - you'll just have to wait and see what they drop at and give them a try. If they "keyhole" - then you'll know they are too small for you bore. 40-45 grains of 2F is what I have always used with this particular minie SWC.

Don't fret too much over it and just see what the mold drops at - I have a feeling they'll shoot just fine out of your Enfield. I have had a number of different .575 molds - over the last 55 years - Ideal, Lyman, Ohaus, etc. and it all depens on the individual mold in my experience. You got a good buy on the mold! Enjoy! I have always found the SWC to be a good target load and helped clear many pots and pigeons from the board with it when I wass shooting N-SSA.

That is what I was hoping for the mold.

I have some nice soft lead that work well.

Thanks

I live on the north coast of Oregon, I wish I was able to compete. Then I would really have to tune the rifle up. Tall front sight....

The Mini is supposed to be sub caliber - the expanding skirt was what was revolutionary at the time. Allowed accuracy with a sub caliber boolit.

You can try out using other Lyman base plugs too.

That's a favorite of a lot of the guys up a ft shenandoah with somewhere around 40 to 45 grains of 3fg.

Not all have interchangeable plugs. Seems there was a point in time they did but production changed. This is my chart for when I feel the urge to cogitate and try something.
