I have been reloading rifle/pistol and shotgun for 30 years, but haven't worked with black powder loads at all.
Also I just purchased a 50-95 Chaparral rifle and along with the rifle some loaded ammo The recipe on the box states Fed large rifle primer, 42 Grs pyrodex and a 450 gr cast bullet. Does this sound Ok I'm use to working with published recipes and cannot find anything on this load.

Loading BP is literally easy. A case full of 2F BP, if Goex compressed slightly, and a card wad and bullet and you are done. Adjust powder amount by the amount of compression you want, less compression less powder. The critical issue is no air space between powder and boolit.

I like a wad between boolit and powder and again no air space lube boolit with a good black powder lube. have fun!

I'd skip the pyrodex and go with real black powder, again, fill it with black powder, try dif. compression amounts, use a card wad and a good bp lube on the bullet, and enjoy.

Mike V has a short article on the 50/95 in the new Handloader N311. It is only 2 pgs long.
