For years I have been using a Vehicle Engine Block heater to warm my 450īs. They are magnetic so will "stick" to either your luber or as I have done a simple flat piece of steel placed below the luber with corresponding mounting holes.
I would be sure these have been reported before but I could not find it...
These cost much less than the BRAND name lube heater units. Tractor supply.. hardware stores.. those BIG department staores generally carry these engine block heaters. [smilie=1:

Me either, but it's perfect! I think I'll try this when I get my Star set up!

After finding that a Star heater and temperature control would cost over $200.00 I bought a Lyman Heater and an ATC300A Terrarium Temperature controller. It's a perfect solution and cost less than $75.00 total. I can set the temperature anywhere between 0 and 50 deg. C (32 to 122 deg. F). The sensor bulb on the controller is 1" x .158" so it's very easy to fabricate a mounting clamp. The heater plugs into the controller with a two spade adapter. The controller is available on e-bay for $29.95. Be sure to get the terrarium controller, not the aquarium model which has to be immersed in water to function.

I looked in Tractor supply for one but living in South West Florida, they didn't have much of a call for them. So I bought a $7.00 steam iron at Wal Mart, set it on 3 and went to town!!! Worked like a champ. The most expensive part was the 4" x 12" x .25" slab of aluminum plate.. $12.00 !!

I just dug up an old iron used for hobbies like model aircraft. It has an adjustment for heat control and everything, but a smaller footprint than a full sized iron. I intend to give this a try.

"Kats" engine block heaters can be had for around $30 @ amazon. Here the dead of winter they are backordered, but would proabably be more avaiable as spring approaches (and on sale??).
