The Puckle Gun (1st repeater"machine" gun) made 1718

I ran across this while I was looking around & had never seen it, or heard mention of it before. I am thinking that I am not the only one. Apparently made in 1718. Well before our founding fathers composed the Dec. of Independence & more importantly the U.S. Constitution. In Particular, the 2nd Amend. of that document.

So, when someone says that the founding fathers could not have imagined firearms other than muskets. you can mention this Puckle gun to them & say when it was made.

This shoots down that argument, IMO. (< pun intended as it fits... LOL )

Actually, he made two, IIRC neither was sold. Most of what you see are reps. It's actually a knockoff of OP's ideas and didn't work very well. Yes, the idea has been around a while. IIRC the Chinese had a multi barreled bamboo fused 'repeater'.

Well, the second longer video had a historian feller on there & he said that they did make 2 and they were sold to some Duke or Earl of some sort in England. The Brits Royal Navy turned him down for some reason.

The one in the video that the historian was showing was made up of original parts & some replica part. Don't speak German( or whatever it is) so I am not sure about the one they fire in the shorter video using the "match light(punk) method rather than the flintlock method. Maybe they were mssing the parts there... :???:...

Pucket himself fired one 63 times in 7 minutes somewhere to demonstrate it , averaging 9 shots per minute, which was well over anything like it in that era.

Don't know who the "OP" is that ya speak of, & what "ideas" ya mean that he might of made a "knock off", but this Puckle fella got a patent for this in England too.

I am not an authority on this stuff, I am just repeating what that historian feller said & what I read in the links.

Sure would like to know who did it before this Puckle, if someone made one before him. I am not really an "aficionado, but some of this stuff is kind of interesting in a trivia sort of way.

JB Looks like the first to use a single barrel with separate firing chambers - so really new idea? IIRC from a few years ago when I saw the vid, the carriage was flimsy, cost was high and reloading was slow. Plus the Brit military wasn't keen on 'new' stuff. Still an impressive machine that fires projectiles (machine gun?).
