I bought a used stainless steel Encore barrel that had sights but were taken off. I need a 8-40 ss plug screw to fill the front sight hole. I called S&W and they sent a screw but it won't work. They sent a two pack of 8-40x.125 and the .125 is too long for the hole. The threads were correct, but the length is off (yes, the bottom of the hole is cleaned out...it's just too long of a plug screw). Does anyone have a shorter ss plug screw they can sell? I really don't want to buy a dozen to get just one. Anyone got one shorter than the .125" one I got? Thanks

If you can't find anything. . . Brownells carries them, and has free shipping 1-2x a month.

I have the 8-40 action set screws from a SS kimber montana. I measured on as .130" with my dial calipers. You're welcome to them if you'd like.

For smaller quantity stuff like this,,, I go to a Hobby Shop that specializes in RC building. They often have an excellent assortment of tiny screws, washers, etc that are the same as gunsmithing stuff. And usually cheaper.

You might take a "gizzie" and a dremel tool and grind one down. A "gizzie" is a threaded piece of flat stock that holds the screw. The end protrudes and you grind off what you don't need./beagle

This is what I do.

Thanks everyone! Today an old dog learned a new trick. I never heard of a gizzie before, but now I have one on the way from Brownell's. Lots of knowledge on here. Thanks again.
